My wife and I are doing it as a more low carb diet.

Just can’t cheat and be careful of high carbs (ie chips, candy, or rice/pasta)

We eat a lot of berries, chicken, ground beef, fish, vegetables and drink a lot of water. Too get drunk on beer or wine

Needless to say, it isn’t good for your body. I had an especially bad reaction to it.

Keto diet works if you have discipline. Of course, every diet would work with discipline. But keto allows people to eat meat and butter and heavy foods so for people without a sweet tooth it should be easier to stick with.

I did keto for a couple months and lost 8 lbs around my midsection. Dropped a belt size and can almost see my abs again. I switched to a more moderate low carb diet bc it’s a lifestyle change and not eating carrots, peas, and berries and apples is asking too much.

Yeah it will work but why do all that shite? Just lower your carbs. I don’t see the need to be all anal about being “keto”. Keep it simple stupid.

It definitely delivers results, but bringing your body to extremes is hardly ever a good process to follow

You can’t eat high sugar foods like them or root vegetables

Yeah because staying morbidly obese for 20 years is better for your health

Have people given up on the paleo diet? I don’t hear about that one nearly as much as I used to.

I’m 53 y/o and 5’10”. Always kept in relatively good shape primarily by doing Crossfit 3-4 days a week. Back in July I had gotten up to 180#. Heaviest I’ve ever been and didn’t feel comfortable. I cut out sugar and grains (except for beer). Currently at 165. Went from a 33” waist to 31”. Recently had a physical and bloodwork came back the best it’s ever been. Total cholesterol and triglycerides down. And I’ve been eating lots of butter, bacon, etc. The only downside is I’ve had to buy new pants/jeans.

Did it for 6 months and my blood pressure and all cholesterol improved. Just started back again on the 1st. I would recommend it and have seen no data that suggests it will cause long term cardio issues.

I am a big proponent of keto and have had lots of success with it, I had similar concerns about heart problems and cholesterol, but you’d be surprised at the results of blood work after a month. I highly recommend the keto subreddit for information. I’m currently a week in after splurging during the holidays and I’ve lost 5 pounds. Here are my quick tips:

1) drink a shitload of water throughout, when you think you’ve had enough, have more
2) learn recipes and snacks you like, snacking can be a killer on diets so finding keto friendly snacks is helpful.
3) creating variety in the diet can be challenging, look up as many easy to make recipes and try them out, saving the ones you like. Have backups in case you don’t feel like cooking (for instance, have a keto friendly pot of chili in the fridge for an easy meal)
4) while you should keep an eye on your calories, you want to make sure you’re getting the allotted amount each day, or you may feel sick.
5) you use NET CARBS, not simply carbs, this means carbs less fiber. Instead of calculating this yourself, download the keto diet app and use their scan function, they have most anything logged in there and everything’s calculated for you

Can’t recommend it enough and it doesn’t necessarily require working out to slim down, although it is suggested.

Edit to add: my favorite keto foods are giant fricking ribeye steaks, Wright brand bacon, Purnells old folks country sausage, pork chops, Tuscan chicken, and roasted cauliflower. For snacks I like beef jerky and cheese and hard boiled eggs.

I also use the pee strips for testing if I’m in ketosis but it’s mainly because I am trying to eat as much as possible and I don’t want to do that if I’m not even going to be in ketosis so it just gives me peace of mind. Not a necessity tho, if you stay under your carbs you’re good. I’m happy to answer any more question

TL;DR - do it, if you’re skeptical, try it for one week and just check your results, you will be more than pleasantly surprised

You don't necessarily have to do keto. A good guideline for an adult male is 130 grams of carbs a day. Cut out sugar and white flour and limit the amount of white rice and potatoes. What helped me was writing down how many carbs a day I was eating.

Yogurt, cottage cheese, lower carb vegetables like cabbage, spouts, broccoli, and cauliflower are all good. Eat lots of nuts like almonds and peanuts and for snacks.

Stick away from food that comes in a box unless it's wholegrain cereals. Frozen vegetables and canned veggies like green beans and peas are fine. Plums are good also. Limit citrus and apples in favor of berries. Eggs are fine as is butter. Eat eggs for breakfast a lot and on other days whole grain cereals.

I've been doing keto for 2 years now. Lost about 50lbs and feel great. I get my blood work done every year and my numbers are fantastic. My triglycerides are 27, my HDL levels are 70+, LDL is 65, and cholesterol is 151.

I eat eggs, bacon, butter, red meat, etc almost every day. I do weight training 4 days a week for about 30 mins a day. No cardio ever other than mountain biking and kayaking occasionally.

I never get sick anymore, no aches and pains(carbs are known to cause inflammation). I'll probably never go back to eating carbs on the regular. I do cheat every now and again, but I mostly don't even want to.

It may not be for everybody, but this lifestyle works for me.

None of this happened and piss tests aren’t for electrolytes. Did you see a naturopath?

Yes lost 15 lbs and 2 belt sizes in a month combined with exercise 5x week.

The cons are limited choices for eating.
