What are the "cons" of this diet?

I'm convinced that it will lead to huge spikes in heart disease and some of these people in about 20 years

there have been studies on this. if you eat the right fats, it shouldn't hurt your heart

if you lower your total BF%, i don't see how it will hurt in the long run regardless

I don't think this is actually correct. It goes against the conventional wisdom for nutrition, but there's a lot of evidence to support the notion that the conventional wisdom (low fat high carb diet = good) is wrong. There are several studies that show ketogenic diets actually improve most blood chemistry metrics.

It isn’t. Cutting out starch and sugar and replacing it with meat and vegetables is very good for you.

The best diet on earth is getting an idea of how many calories your body burns in a day on average based on your age, sex, height, weight, lifestyle, etc.

Calories in < Calories out = weight lost

Everyone wants a fad diet, but the truth is it’s really not that complicated. Maintain an active lifestyle and don’t eat like shite. Monitor your carb and sugar intake and you’re good.

There are no cons. Have a cookie or two every once and a while. Eating the entire cookie box in one sitting each day is what is killing people.

When you eat an orange or an apple it will actually taste good again when you are on this regimen. The added sugar in products marketed as healthy is ridiculous.

I did more low carb that got me into keto without knowing what keto was.

If done right you lose the weight for sure. Can have long term kidney affects if not done right.

I started off gung-ho, so maybe start slowly for long term. The sugar fix sux as not much out there to handle it.

BTW - Mission Tortilla has a pretty good flour tortilla that is 4g (smaller) or 6g carbs (little bigger) that are solid for fajitas/bfest tacos/quillidilas/etc.

i think a major issue is that Keto is being confused with the old promotions of Atkins, where people fried up 2 lbs of bacon daily

those images are still burned into people's brains

I tried it last year. It made me realllllyyy sick. I’m talking 104° fever. I went to the doctor and got a piss test. They said I was so low on electrolytes that if I didn’t eat some carbs in the next couple of hours that I could possibly go into a coma. That ended real fast.

Needless to say, it isn’t good for your body. I had an especially bad reaction to it.

Well heart disease, diabetes and overall obesity has gone up eating the diet that's been forced into the minds of Americans. So continue on.

I got fat after marriage and 3 kids. Went Keto (primal blueprint) pretty religiously for damn near a year. I lost 50 lbs in 4ish months and had to buy all new clothes. Dropped 2 coat sizes in my suits. My blood pressure and cholesterol levels all improved by eating a diet high in fat and low in sugar. The hardest part was giving up bread and rice/pasta, but after 5 years I don’t really miss it at all.

I now continue to eat in that way, but splurge some weekends. If you just sit down and think about the crap that the majority of us eat on a given day, it’s easy to see why everyone is overweight. Sugar is the #1 problem.

It’s not good if you are in the 25% BF range or less

However if you are 50 lbs overweight or morbidly obese and you are also eating green vegetables with a balance of fats such as egg and avacado, the Beni fits far outweighs the potential harm you are doing.

True, but your body doesn’t break down all calories the same.

It is a bit dehydrating at first so some electrolyte powder is good (ie Gatorade powder without the three cops of sugar and corn syrup). Your body will stabilize. Just remeber a bag of Doritos is dehydrating too.

I think part of the reason the diet catches flak is that there is nothing to sell you. There are no shakes or meal replacements or deal-a-meal cards to purchase. The system is eating like a normal human used to eat.
