Half dozen guys I went to high school with died off that shite in the 2000s at least. It was really fricked up. I was hanging out with them back then and god knows I did a lot of dumb shite but by the grace of god I was never an opiate guy. Just never did anything for me.

Had friends get hooked on the oxy street market. Not aware of anyone who was prescribed it.
For those buying drugs on the street, they play stupid games and win stupid prizes. I don’t feel bad for them. But hearing the stories of these people who got hooked from what began as legitimate doctor prescriptions is terrifying.

That’s what all the science claims. I believe it.

My brother-in-law was hooked on the shite. He got off of it a few years ago, supposedly, but found out this week that he has cancer in his adrenal glands and it has metastasized. I figure there's got to he some correlation. He got hooked after nerve surgery.
I had back surgery myself but luckily a family friend advised that I only use that shite to be able to sleep because it was so potentially addictive.

I've been eating them daily for 20 years. I wouldn't exactly call it a pandemic. It helps tremendously with my pain from degenerative disk disease.
Jesus! So many things wrong with this statement. They’re addictive at any strength or any brand.
Using these for your “disc pain” is an excuse. Lots of us have back pain. Mine is excruciating and 4 ibuprofen help. Do something else about it.
There is no way a doctor has prescribed you pills for 20 years. You’re either doctor shopping or buying them off the street. Doctors won’t even give 2 or 3 refills after a surgery. About the only way you get unlimited refills is if you have terminal cancer.
And seek treatment. You are dangerously addicted, and may as well shoot heroin. You’d better hope you never run out, because it won’t be pretty. Think exorcist.
The the drug companies should not be allowed to make that shite. It is dangerous poison.

Speaking of heroin , Robert Kennedy stated Kratom is synthetic heroin? If so, that is crazy, they sell that shite at every convenience store.

Same here.
Blessed with wise parents I remember whenever anyone would have surgery or something and get prescribed painkillers they’d always say, “they make you feel good but too good, body needs a little pain”’ so I always had that in my head.

The Federal government created the opioid crisis and in trying to "fix" the opioid crisis the Federal government created the fentanyl crisis.

The world was a better place when oxy and pain killers were availible. The current fentanyl epidemic is much worse.
Issue was so many morons got hooked and ruined it for everyone.

RFK says a lot of things. Do not rely on him as a source for accurate information on any of those things.

My ex wife had lower back problems after our second child was born. I sent her to 3 of the best neurosurgeons in the country yet she refused to get back surgery. Long story long 8 years later a pain management doctor had her on 240 10mg Loratabs a month and she also had a prescription to OxyContin that I didn’t even know about. Back then pharmacist would fill prescriptions a week early. I actually made an appointment with my wife’s doctor and when he asked how can I help you I told him please reduce the medication he was prescribing to her because she was too intoxicated to be a good mother or wife and I’m fearful she could up and die. She stayed on that stuff for 8 years and that doctor got turned into the DEA. Opiates are a drug one should not chase. It ruined her health. She’s 57, broke, no job, can’t work, and has been in and out of hospitals since May for organ failure. Doctors have pretty much said she could go today to say a year or two tops. Sure feel bad for her but she brought this onto herself. The two I truly feel sorry for are our two children. I still to this day am so grateful they turned out normal and productive and don’t generally do anything wrong. Maybe watching their mother destroy herself made them wiser about handling you business better. What a mess!

I call bullshite on your 'excruciating' pain. What is wrong with your back? Do you have degenerative disc disease like that poster does? What do you do for work? Do you know what he does for work? You can have a doctor prescribe you pain meds for as long as you need as my parents have/had been for around 20 years. My dad will get his pain medication until the day he dies and he doesn't have terminal cancer.
Some people can't 'do something else' about pain. Either it's something that can't be fixed (like my dad) or like in my case I am the sole caretaker for my dad. He can't drive and has a bunch of ailments. I need both of my shoulders replaced and it would be impossible for me to have that surgery.
It's also very difficult to 'doctor shop' now. While yes it can happen its not nearly as easy as it was 20 years ago.

Watched that with mom when she was in the hospital with cancer. Made her afraid to take the drugs so that was a bad choice.
This is the problem with raising awareness…when you help one person, you hurt another.
I don’t know what the solution is.

When I had my hernia surgeries I took some for a few days. I got rid of the rest of them because they made me feel WAY too good. Physically, mentally, emotionally I felt on top of the world.
I can 110% see how some people get addicted to them.

I’m an older pharmacist and remember having some heated discussions with some smart arse know it all Dr.s. Most were good about it but it was and still is so over done. I had a prescription for 480 OxyContin 80 myself come in. If you are wondering at what amount is an overdose there is none. You can increase the dosage by 50% every 2 days with side effects being the deciding when to stop. I have so many people that have dependency issues and it is crazy what I hear

I certainly agree the government allowed opioid usage to get way out of control. Now a doctor won’t prescribe you anything narcotic for pain unless you saw your arm off. They are almost too strict now. Until half of America was addicted to that stuff and people were dying off did they step in. Law enforcement told Washington that this country was out of control but pharmaceutical lobbyists are pretty powerful with influence and stopped the crackdown for over a decade.
The government sure flooded the United States with cocaine to finance an off the books war during the Reagan administration.
In the 1970’s it sure seemed like a lot of housewives took too much Valium for their nerves. Americans have a propensity for getting messed up be it on illegal drugs or alcohol. When it comes to Fentanyl that is something I’m not educated on other than people are dying. A high school kid died from that stuff in my neighborhood and she was really a good teenager that made a poor decision to I guess experiment. Nice upper middle class neighborhood too so you know how that went over. It literally shocked the whole town.

My MIL got addicted. She ended up leaving my FIL to live with another addict she met in rehab and of course, they made it worse for each other and the other person stole tens of thousands from my MIL. My FIL always stood by her and eventually she was able to recover, and moved back in with him. That was really trying for everyone. She seems to be okay now and for the last 15 years.
