I mentioned earlier in this thread that I went to school with the daughter of the 4th officer who was shot, but didn’t die. Here is what he said about the incident and testifying in the trials in an interview on the tenth anniversary:

quote:
"Kerry Spencer was guilty. I just had to make sure I didn't make a mistake. On Nathaniel's, I had to show the jury what he did because he didn't pull the trigger. Granted, at the end, he showed it himself," Collins said.
"I still to this day have more anger for Nathaniel Woods than I do Kerry Spencer because I believe he's the one that planned it. It was his idea. He was the catalyst that caused it all. It would have never happened without him."

You seriously don't see a problem with this?
Of course I do. I just think it was spontaneous not orchestrated.

Using the logic of some posters in this thread one could argue Jeffrey Dahmer was just hungry.

The law should be adjusted but it's not like it's new or anything.

And there were witnesses in the trial that disagree about what you think.

So this is a statement by the main witness in a death penalty case? I believe xxxxx happened.

I live here and have been a proponent of the Death Penalty all my adult life. This case is way over the bounds here. I am not even sure he should be in Prison, much less getting juiced in 1.5 hours. I wish Ivey would step in here!

Everyone reads what the activists say about the case. Why don't you read the Alabama case that gives the real picture as opposed to an advocate's presentation?
For example, there was testimony that Woods said "they f'd with the wrong n----. We shot their asses."
Numerous courts have also reviewed his case. You can reach your own conclusion by reading the cases, here's a link to one. You may still agree with what the activists say, but at least you aren't basing your opinion on whatever internet b.s. you read.

Well, he was one of the four people shot, and the only one to survive. A jury had the opportunity to consider his testimony and weigh it, and obviously they found it compelling enough to support their verdict and subsequent sentencing recommendation. He affirmatively said that this terrible tragedy does not happen without Nathaniel Woods.
It also is important to note that the quote I posted is what Officer Collins said in an interview ten years later, not necessarily what he said on the witness stand at trial.

Overzealous District Attorney's need to understand the blow back for their decisions nationally. Social media and the 24 hours news cycle are far reaching. If an encounter in Baton Rouge with an armed suspect can turn into an international debate on race relations, what makes any town in any state any different?
There are good reasons for reviewing a conviction - social media blow back is not one of them. You can't always find loudmouths who bitch about injustices.
The U.S. and Alabama Supreme courts have reviewed the case and found no issue. So, do you believe these courts (and others) or what some "activist" says?

That is fine. I am stating what I think is the likely way things happened based on my knowledge albeit limited if the evidence.

Serious question: Have you read the cases affirming the conviction? I think sometimes people buy in to the activists who will say anything to get the guy off death row. If you read the cases and that is your opinion, good.

3 cops show up to serve him a warrant. He resists and starts fighting with 2 cops inside when his cousin shoots them. Then tells his cousin there is one more cop outside that the cousin kills as well.
Arguing the merits of the law is one thing, straight up lying is another.

You skipped right past this part,
On Nathaniel's, I had to show the jury what he did because he didn't pull the trigger. Granted, at the end, he showed it himself," Collins said.
Not to mention that witnesses testified that it was planned. .

He wrote lyrics in his own handwriting that included, among other lyrics:
"I drop pigs like (co-defendant) Kerry Spencer,
So when I walk around strapped,
One time bust a cap and watch the pigs clapse (sic)"
I wish these cases would let me paste.

I bet Jefferson Beauregard Sessions came in his whitey tighties when he heard about this case.

Seems like too many posters in this thread are more sympathetic to Woods than the 3 fallen officers.

That witness clearly indicates that it was planned. There's no justifying what he did. That's why his execution has been upheld on appeals. Ample evidence has been shown that Woods was very much a part of what went down, and wanted to be there for the carnage.
After reviewing the facts, it seems as though this mofo deserves the death penalty.
