I hired Continental moving and storage for a move. TL;DR: is that they tried to extort us, trashed our front yard, broke a new TV, damaged a couch and love seat, damaged a headboard and bed frame, broke a bookcase and a dresser, and destroyed a bedside table and a new crock pot. They also lost my mattress. Movers were rude/lazy, didn’t give us a week notice like they said they would, and arrived so late, with two guys for a 4 man job, that we ended up carrying in most of the boxes ourselves. The cherry on top is that they refused to move our two largest/heaviest items, the couch and love seat, into the house, saying they “wouldn’t fit through the door,” leaving them on the curb outside. So at 1AM my gf (no pics) and I carried them up the stairs ourselves and got them inside. At this point I’m considering legal action for breach of contract. I know I’m probably not the only one here to deal with shite like this, but Jesus Christ what a disaster.

How all my shite arrived:

That’s why you buy a case of corona and pick up 2 “Texans” out front of Home Depot and pay em $50 each plus beer to load up the truck. Do the same once you reach your destination.

had a buddy whose moving company went out of business while in the middle of moving all of his stuff

they put all of his stuff in a storage facility in a city 6 hours away

it took him 6 months to get his stuff back

I'm moving next month and we were debating about doing it ourselves or hiring a moving company. This just sealed it.

That’s why you pay for the insurance. I used allied to move me from Shreveport back to here. I had a 6 month window where I was In an apartment that was furnished while I could a place etc. so my stuff went from my house to storage. Then from storage to my new place. Every piece of furniture I owned (which all was pretty new being I went through a divorce about a year prior) was severely scratched, cracked or broken. My fridge looked like someone beat it with a hammer. My dressers looked like they laid them on concrete and drug them on the tops, my desk was missing a leg and the backs and corners of my leather sectional was raw.

I didn’t understand how this happened as everything went into a box or was wrapped in moving blankets. It was explained to me that when it goes into storage, the blankets come off as they stay with the truck. Each truck is contracted through allied not property of allied.

The one positive was that everything boxed, I only had one picture crack which was amazing for the amount I have and how my furniture came out. I think they paid me close to 4K for the claim but your screwed as what can you do? It was cosmetic so they don’t replace the fridge. Can’t find the matching pieces of the furniture. So you learn to live with it I guess.

Did you do any research on the moving company beforehand?

Years ago when I lived in apartments I went from the third floor to the third floor at a different place.

This scrawny little 150 lb guy picked up my heavy arse couch over his head and walked up three floors.

He had an equally scrawny girl with him and after they left I found a cap with blood/water in my bathroom. One or both had gone in there and was shooting drugs up

I was like no wonder that shrimp had the strength of five men

I don't 100% remember what company we used during our last move, Abba Movers I think. They were fantastic. They were literally jogging in and out of my house with stuff.

I'm screwed....AMS are actually in my house at this very moment packing/boxing/wrapping my "stuff".

Came highly recommended from a friend who recently used them for a move.

Oh well, wife and I are both here keeping an eye on things....wish me luck

Nothing too bad but one time they didn't stack anything so they got about half done and said "we are out of room in the truck" and I had to get in the truck and start stacking to make room for them.

good luck, I wasn't joking, they have a terrible reputation, supposedly started by a NYC cop but I get the vibe that they're some sort of front or laundering façade for the mob

Ohhhhh man... do I.

So we hired a company to move use 3 hours away... loading and everything went smoothly... nice guys (3 of them). Finally finish up around 3 that afternoon and are ready to roll out. I get to the final destination 3 hours later (because that's how long it takes).... they aren't there. No biggie... they probably stopped to eat and they are also in a moving truck. Well, 10PM rolls around and they are still no where to be found.... Kinda start getting worried...more pissed off. They finally arrive around 1130 (possibly smelling like weed lol), unload everything with me into storage unit and get ready to roll out. I pay them the money (something like 1700 or 1800 bucks, cash) and they leave. Well, we get a call the next day from the owner of the moving company who asks if we knew if his guys had left and if we had paid them? We told him yes and that we paid them the total in cash, as was requested by the owner (probably tax reasons...I'm cool with it). He says he can't get a hold of them.... Well, later that day he calls and said he filed a police report and that the police found his moving truck in downtown Houston with all of his moving material stolen and the 1800 cash gone as well, obviously.

I know... long story... but it was kinda funny and fricked up. Just glad that I got all my shite from destination A to B and in one piece.

And yes, I did panic and go through the entire storage unit to do a half arse inventory to make sure all my shite was in there... thankfully they didn't want our shite.

Multiple times. Not showing up at either end. Charging more than estimate, lots of stuff.

After the last fiasco, I have vowed that the next long distance move will get rid of everything I cannot fit in a van (give to salvation army for tax write off) and buy new shite on the other end.

One that was almost funny. Mover showed up 7 hours late and did not finish move in until 1 AM. He had gall to ask for a tip at end. I told him, here's your tip. Show up on time next time and you would have gotten nice tip. I generally am a good tipper but I base amount on service delivered not some percentage.

When I closed on my house. There were 10 professionals at the table for signing. At end of signing I asked all if there was a mover they could recommend.......all 10 people.....crickets zero recommendations.

This.

If you want amateurs moving your stuff, just rent a truck and pick up some guys in the Home Depot parking lot.

Years ago a family we knew moved across states. The large moving tractor/trailer was going really fast down the interstate, back when it was 55 mph. The dad was worried they'd go too fast and break their furniture, so he pulls along side to signal if they'd slow down (no cell phones in ancient times). They waived a gun at him and kept on driving.

I see these frickers every morning before I hop on Bush. Are they really that bad? I was considering using them at some point.

1 younger skinny dude was sweating profusely while moving my stuff out of the truck and into my house. Then he would disappear into the restroom for like 20 min, and did so several times.

We asked for him not to come back since he just sketched out my family, didn’t work hard, and I though was high the whole time.

The second guy worked pretty good.
