I have 6 Dollar Generals and 3 Wal-Marts within 5 miles of my house

They also have Dollar General Marketplace. They have more groceries. Some are good, some not. Their meat selection is pretty weak. If I was still a student, and poor, I would buy their hotdogs. They put them on sale, two packs for $1.

You can also get Krispy Kreme doughnuts that look about 2 weeks old.

I only go when I'm visiting my podnuh in Texas. You can go in drunk as shite, dressed like a homeless POS and you fit right in. Oh, they have a decent beer selection too.

He is 100% correct though.

Yes they have tons of urban/suburban locations, but they have a metric frick ton of locations in BFE. You'll be driving past nothing but empty fields then boom, there's a DG.

They are in a ton of places where Walmart isn't.

Over 20 years ago when I was in 4th grade, I spent the night at a kid in my class's apartment. I was unaware at the time but it was a Section 8 apartment and his mom was on welfare.

Anyway she bought all the groceries at Dollar General. I'll never forget the taste of the Dollar General brand Cocoa Puffs knockoff I ate that morning.

I couldn't even imagine what the meat/food in the freezers taste like.

I buy cleaning supplies there. And on Saturdays you get $5 off of a $25 purchase.

There's 2 in a high income zip code near me.

They're everywhere.

Always stop in way to the camp for snack food and random junk for kids. Vienna sausage for the blind is clutch also.

High levels of convenience. There is one 5 minutes from my subdivision. It's great when you want 3 12-pack cokes for $11, chips, batteries, hygiene, cleaning materials and I dont have to deal with driving in traffic to a Walmart or Target.

They fill a good niche that they exploit very well.

actually has better prices than Wallyworld
nope

they typically sell items that are smaller or contain less product

their prices look better on the surface, but when you compare by price per oz., Wallyworld crushed them

Again, must be different elsewhere then.

In Atlanta they're overwhelmingly in rough or rural areas.

Dollar Tree is great for this.

All the shite that now cost $2-4 at gas stations and grocery stores is still $1. Candy, snacks, canned items, sodas, tp/paper towels, travel size bathroom shite.

My go to store when stocking up on camping supplies or last minute shite when traveling. Plus the parking and lines are much shorter than Walmart.

I don't keep my normal pantry and medicine cabinet stocked up from Dollar Tree, but it does serve a niche.
