Anyone else notice more and more white teenagers acting “urban”

I know this has been a thing for past 30 years or so, but it used to be a very small portion of the school and they were losers for the most part. Now it seems like half the white boys I see want to act and dress this way. What’s changing to cause this?

What is acting urban in your mind?

Seems like white trash and ghetto culture have merged in rural areas.

Not mutually exclusive. And to answer the OP, it’s because the internet and social media apps have allowed cultural norms and quirks to permeate society significantly more quickly than they used to

Sounds like you are just the typical person getting older that doesnt get the young generation.

I live in Memphis and no, I have not noticed this.
In fact, I've honestly noticed a pretty distinct shift away from the non-culture youth acting "urban". Maybe a reflection of societal "fatigue" we're seeing everywhere? Who knows, just my anecdotal observation over the last 2-3 years.

Has been happening since the 80's / 90's, nothing new.
White suburban kids wearing starter jackets and backwards hats is nothing new.

Take a ride to the westbank or Chalmette.

I've been seeing dumbass kids- white, black, and brown- wearing hoodies in 90+ heat for years. Don't know what they are trying to prove, but they must be hot and stink something awful.

Sup, yo?
For real for real you spittin' straight facts homie. One hundred.
I merely jest, but in all seriousness I believe this cultural appropriation is due to an identity crisis in certain young people who: (1) may not have strong, present authority figures like parental units; and/or (2) may be having a difficult time fitting in, so they look to associate with less than reputable characters in their community as a way to satisfy their social bonding needs, aight G?
Peace Out

one of my friends went urban in college and tried to start a rap career. He still looks pretty urban but he's a very successful professional engineer.
