dealing with idiots at airports and in airplanes

yep, don't know what it is, but it seems like, what I assume are normally rational, reasonable people, just lose their shite when they get in proximity to an airport

I always think about that when flying. Also watching the wings and how flimsy they appear. I don't really fear flying at all but when taking off sometimes it feels you're going to just fall out of the sky

Asians and Indians.

SMH. I don't think I could travel to either of those regions of the world.

Mind boggling how clueless/mindless some people can be of other peoples space.

I was thinking more of our home grown yuppie types, most other cultures don't place the same value on personal space as we do btw

I never minded flying until a few years ago. The idiot crowds, TSA, etc. have a lot to do with it.

The MSY Zataran's Kitchen double Bloody Mary's have curbed my apprehension a lot, but the nervousness is still there. I never get to the airport early enough to put down four or five drinks before boarding.

The first was similar to my experience. We were landing in VERY bad weather (rain, fog, etc). I had a window seat, and as soon as the clouds parted I saw a highway under us on the ground. I didnt think much of it until the pilot assessed the situation differently and gunned the engines. he was apparently a lot closer to the ground than where he thought or not where we were supposed to be

I have a deep fear of flying

You are not alone. I dread flying, but nonetheless have to endure it frequently for work and pleasure. Among other things, I've white knuckled my way through a 14 hour flight from O'Hare to Tokyo. I take Valium and quaff some wine or beer before I take off. It doesnt eliminate the fear, but it makes the fear more manageable, as if you are viewing the entire affair from a safe distance, swaddled in a warm buzz. It also temporarily makes me the kindest, most compassionate man to ever walk the concourses. Then we land, mortality sheathes its blade, the drugs wear off, and I return to a normal existence.

Yea, I'm not saying it in a racist or offensive matter. Should have been clear.

Its def. a culture thing.

Americans are much more type A and on their game when it comes to flying but then again there are also totally clueless american flyers out there too.

The flight I was on, people were screaming and crying. Folks in front of me were praying very loudly. So that kind of made the situation a lot worse.

There was a Russian girl in the seat next to me praying and barfing in a bag. The flight was pretty gut-wrenching at the time, but looking back it wasn't so bad as far as rough flights go. I guess I always imagined worse. That constant rollercoaster feeling was the worst part of it.

Here's my theory

Once the plane is in the air what is the point of being afraid? The plane will either fly and get you to your destination or it won't.

I was on a two seater and it was going up and down the whole 90 minutes. The first 10 minutes I would look at the pilot and listen to his speech while we talked. When he remained the same I just relaxed and enjoyed the roller coaster ride.

The only thing I have control over is whether I board the plane or not. Once you are on and in the air everything is out of your hands. Sit back and enjoy the flight or sleep. Worrying won't make the plane fly smoother or the terrorist to change his mind.

If there's a prescription medication that works well then there's a strain of cannabis or some natural herb thats better for you.

Larger, heavier aircraft wouldn't work with. What we need is gravity generators. At least planes wouldn't have drop if something goes major happened like loss of control surfaces .

Best thing to do is just let them by. They can't have your seatx nor take your seat in business class.

But they hilariously don't give a shite where you are standing.
