Anyone else hate how much stupid tech they put in vehicles now?

Im not even old im in my 30s and been contemplating buying a new pickup to eventually replace my 04 Chevy when the rust finally kills it and even the gauge clusters are a digital screen. Like WTF. It gets to the -20s here every winter a few times and I've already had to replace the radio touch screen in my 2018 Equinox because the cold broke it. Can't imagine having to replace all that other shite. On top of that you can hardly work on them. I can replace everything in the 20 year old trucks myself in my driveway but with newer ones even doing the brakes is a shitshow with electronic parking/E brakes. And WTF do i need heated/cooled seats and all this dumbass other shite for? It's just more shite to break that i cant replace.
Might just look for a low mileage mid 2000s Chevy again and drive it till the rust kills it again.

I’ve fixed a handful of peripheral stuff in my 2004 Yukon. I doubt if I can fix much in a new vehicle.

That -20 degree weather?
I've sat in ventilated seats in the the Louisiana heat a few times and it's a game changer.
You are welcome to drive a go-kart around if new tech bothers you but for me I love the new safety features I think are awesome. I won't have a vehicle without backup cameras anymore after I almost backed over my son years ago after he ran behind the vehicle without me Knowing.

I like most of the new features but don't like the giant tablet sticking out of most dashboards.

Agree. Serves no purpose and just makes it more expensive.
I have manual windows (which are also safer) and no console. I'm going to make my current ride last as long as possible.

Ya I kinda like a lot of the new tech, but agree that trucks are way too expensive because of it. It’s getting ridiculous really

Yes. This is the point.

Buy a pre-90’s vehicle and restore it. I bought an ‘86 suburban for $4k. I’ve got about another $10k in it with brakes, tires, steering, transmission, etc, etc. rides better and WAY cheaper than a new one.

Yeah definitely. I’m actually trying to decide to replace my current vehicle or keep and upgrade, renovate it. More tech is more bullshite to break and cost $800 to fix (if your lucky).

Well...

I would much rather work on a OBDII car than an old one because of the much shorter diag time. The only thing that bugs me is the packaging of modern cars that leaves less room to work and requires pulling a lot of non-related stuff off to get to where you need to work, which is compounded on transverse engines. It does take more bandwidth and a wider variety of skills to work on a modern car but the information to do it is usually easily available.
I much prefer modern cars but I also like working on cars and don't mind putting in the effort to be able to.

Trucks are definitely overpriced. And for most people a more moderately priced SUV or minivan would serve them better.
All the fancy bells and whistles tech...eh, I could take or leave.
But the safety tech? I'm all about it. As someone who will have teen drivers before long I'm reconsidering the conventional wisdom that you get them an old beater because "they're gonna wreck it."
Instead with some of this new safety tech, blind spot detection, front and rear collision detection...
What if instead of saying "they're gonna have accidents" you could stop the accidents and the headache and heartache of repair and medical bills?
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure

Yes. Luckily my 2021 Tacoma, which I just paid off, didn't have the software that controls a lot of options installed. I refuse to install software that is full of security holes and tracking bots just to be able to Remote start my truck

This one gets me every time- why do we need LED gauge clusters? Just one more expensive repair because that screen has to work since it’s your speedometer, gas gauges, etc.
My 2017 Jeep has power windows/locks and cruise, and nothing else. I like it that way. I want to keep it forever.

Last car was bare bones, current is high tech and I absolutely love it.

Seems like I'm replacing sensors more than any damn mechanical issues.

Ima be that dude and just say I’m a little girl about the cold, and if I’m you, this is the last thing I’m complaining about.

HUD is hard to live without when you have it and then don't, the beep when you turn on your lane change signal and a car is in your blind spot, the large screen you can put Waze on when on a road trip, heated seats in a cold enviroment, yes I do.
The auto start/stop feature at stop lights I hate.

Get the basic work truck version. No need for the bells and whistles.

I went from a 2006 Sierra to a 2017 F-150 about a year ago. Just a few days ago I was driving and I got a blind spot monitoring alert and my AC goes out. I also couldn’t roll down my windows or unlock my doors. It turns out there was moisture in my tail light that was making a sensor go in and out. I took everything apart and dried it out and the issue fixed itself, but I was left dumbfounded why the AC and power locks/windows were being affected by it. Ridiculous. Hopefully I don’t have that issue again.
