Apparently spoofing is when a telemarketer uses your phone number to make calls in the local area so people are more likely to answer. I have no clue how they do this but it sucks. I'm getting about 2 calls a day from random people asking why I called them. No telling how many people have been called by my number but don't try and call back to see who called them. This has been going on for over a month. Supposedly there isn't shite I can do butwait it out or get a different number.

I think this is impacting practically the entire country

I haven't returned a missed call from my area code and prefix in like 2 years because of this shite

In the past 2-3 months it has really picked up. I am getting 2-3 calls a day from telemarketers or as soon as I answer the line disconnects

This is the kind of thing government Intellegence services should be used for. Hunt down and destroy these people.

Same here. I never answer calls from unknown numbers now. I started that in the last 2 - 3 years.

I get email from my own email address frequently. Don't know why anybody thinks this will work. Goes straight to my junk folder.

Yes and the FTC does not give a shite. The Do not Call list is worthless.

I've stopped answer all unknown phone calls now because of this. A credit card company routinely spoofs my local area code with some BS offer to lower rates.

This. I am getting 2-3 a day myself and usually never answer. These motherfrickers better hope I never find out where they are, I want to personally strangle them all.

As another poster said, with all the surveillance the government has, they need to fry these assholes, this is harassment.

Happened to me too. I was up to about 10 phony calls a day.

****There is something you can do about it****

Download the app "Hiya". On the app, you can create a rule to block all spoofing calls. It has eliminated almost all of the junk calls. I am a fan. I thought I was going to have to replace my number that I have had for almost 20 years.

I'm actually not getting that many telamarketer calls. Its mostly from people who've been called by them using my number.

I need to edit my voicemail and remove my full name so people calling me "back" Won't think "John Smith" is a fu king a-hole for calling them and not saying what for.

I get one of these calls nearly every day. And someone has also left me a message asking why I had called them (I didn't). Now, I don't answer any numbers I don't recognize. If they don't leave a message, it obviously isn't important.

The Do Not Call list only applies to legit telemarketers and they are shrinking.

These spoof assholes in Bangladesh and India could not care less about the DNC list.

These people need to be killed with a lot of fire.

I'm convinced it's tied to all the apps on our devices.

Think about the permissions you give to the installed apps on your phone.

This has also happened. Had a missed call from a number and called it back. Person on other line claims they never called me. Very weird

Pretty much everyone these days. This has been going on in BR for close to a year.

I don’t answer calls unless they leave a message or I recognize the number.
