I had a guy call me from 504 area code last year and threaten to whip my arse if I called him back. At the time I'd never heard of this. I just knew I had never called this guy. Swear he told me to meet him at Sonic, I told him this wasn't the OT and laughed as I hung up. It was quite strange.

es anybody ever buy anything from these asshats??

It doesn't seem like it would be profitable bc I have never heard of anyone that listens to their pitch, much less buys anything

They aren't selling anything. They want your credit card #s.

I used to get one every couple of months but the past few weeks I am getting 3-10 a day.

I assumed it was the IRS or ICE trying to track me down, nice to know it is just your average telemarketing bot .

Download the app "Hiya". On the app, you can create a rule to block all spoofing calls. It has eliminated almost all of the junk calls. I am a fan. I thought I was going to have to replace my number that I have had for almost 20 years.

I just set it up on my phone and if it works I am going to owe you a beer

Yea these guys suck. I get 1 a week now probably. It was like 3 a day for 2 weeks. They eventually stopped.

I have a buddy who does inside sales and theu even scramble their numbers to get a local area code.

Got several calls from a very irrational woman who thought I was calling her. From her accent and diatribe, it was clear we didn't know one another (oh, and I never called her). Fk these people.

"Is the head of the household available?"

Instead of hanging up, perhaps we should be creative; some possible responses: despite his mama trying he is doing life without parole or he died in a fire or ????

I haven't returned a missed call from my area code and prefix in like 2 years because of this shite

This. I’ve been using the if you’re not already in my phone you can leave a voicemail method. And if no voicemail is left after 2 calls from the same number, block. frick em if they don’t know how to leave a message.

I've had at least 3 people call me over the past couple of weeks asking why I called them. I explained "spoofing" and they all understood. Today I got what looked like a call from an old friend, it was a telemarketing robo-call.

I've noticed another type of spoofing the past few months. I'll get random phone calls where the first 6 numbers match my cell phone. It happens almost every other day and it's definitely not a coincidence.

I never pick up, but when it happens I always hesitate as I'll think it's my number for a split second.

Yes, but not my number. But over the past 4 months I’ve gotten a call from a 225 area code, they don’t leave a message. Because I’m in Sales I never know if it’s a client etc calling me, so I returned the call. This lady answers her phone stating that she never called me. I explain that I think her number has been compromised, she doesn’t understand so I just hang up. About a month later happens again, not recognizing the number I call back and she stated that she didn’t call me - again same situation. I tried to explain to her that the chances of me making up a number in the 225 area code and having it work and it being the same number are extremely remote. After it happened the third time I blocked the damn number

Every day.

Like others have said, even got a call from myself once.

ETA: I’ve never had someone call me and bitch at me for “calling them” though

I like how I get local numbers and when I call back it says it’s not even a valid number

call back
Why anybody calls back at all, or answers at all (unknown numbers), or talks to these callers at all, is a total mystery. Once they master spoofing your personal address book and use only these known numbers to telemarket you, there is no defense currently that can stop this. Just chuck your phone app and only talk over WiFi.

One big mistake: listing family and friending on FB... then using FB as log in shortcut for other apps.
One more: keeping your address (contacts) book on your phone or on google, etc.

I’ve had a shite ton of these lately. From a couple a week to a couple a day. Concentration of Albany numbers, and Left Coast numbers along with the same area code/prefix. Also several text messages asking me why I called them when I hadn’t. Personal phone and work phone (which started when it hit the MLS while trying to sell my house)

Merrily blocking away, but about to download the App. The government should drop the bomb on these frickers.

Had this happen to me a few months ago. 20+ "return" phone calls a day for about 10 days. Pissed me off, but it eventually stopped
