We did the famous Tracy Kings in Juneau during an Alaskan cruise and it was fantastic albeit very pricy.

Did the same back in June, and agree with this statement.

I had planned to but someone made the point that it may be bland and not taste very good to someone from LA.

Why would you acknowledge that as a point worth considering?

It’s going to taste like King Crab. Why would it taste different based on being from LA?

I think they cook and flash freeze them on the boat. So it doesnt really matter if you buy it in Alaska or in the lower 48. You are getting the same thing.

Unless you are on the crab boat of course.

They are only good if you eat them during daylight.

I mean, it’s good but the halibut and calamari is better. Best calamari I’ve ever had was in Alaska and freshly caught that morning.

When I moved here 30 years ago you could dive and keep 5 king crab per day. My kids would name them, we would race them on the floor then throw them in the pot. Still remember the kids mortified faces... We still have a fishery here, though the season is short and changes year to year.

So you remember Wards Cove Salmon Cannery? I worked there for the summer in 1986.

Not all the time I think; You can still get live king crabs at some place and it taste a lot better than the one they flash freeze. The flash freeze ones tend to me salty.

Didn't try the calamari, but I will next time.

The Halibut was amazing though.

Being from a seafood state, I know that fresh is light years better than frozen, and the only king crab I've ever had was frozen.

Alaska is the only state I've never been to and eating fresh king crab is the only reason I'd go.

King Crab harvest has been shut down in Alaska for a few years now. I think its coming back this year.

I've had king crab from South America in the last year. It's cheaper and just as delicious if you can find it.

Were they still really expensive in Alaska? I think I paid around 100 for some from Costco a year or two ago.

They were kind of pricey, but not terrible.

We actually walked right past that spot and went a bit further to Hangar on the Wharf. I was recommend that place so that's where we went. Tracy's looked good too.

15 years ago I tried King Crab and could not believe how tender it was compared to Lobster. It actually ruined Lobster for me. Have not eaten a Lobster since then, King Crab only for me.
