I would think anything from 1975 or earlier is a classic. Even 1979. 1980 is just too soon

Don't they do that to enable no registration fees, etc?

In MS if the vehicle is 25 years old. You can get a Antique License Plate for $26.00 that is valid for as long as you own the vehicle.

1979 BJ-40 when I’m on my farm in Costa Rica.

1983 FJ-40 in the States.

Both will beat the shite out of you and you will smell like gas or diesel. The gasser will eat you alive in fuel consumption, but it’s all worth it.

Resale value has sky rocketed. The economy is hitting on all cylinders right now so nothing is cheap. Buy when the economy takes a dip and they are great investments. I’d only buy a classic if it is decent shape or restored. Restoring a classic usually cost 100 times more than you originally thought and when you start taking it apart, you find so many other problems. That being said, go for it. I love classics.

25 years is classic. Shut your mouth and wash your Prius.

Technically a classic is like 20 years old or something like that, but yes, agreed.

A Tahoe is preferable to an old wagoneer in my opinion, but you could get it as a second/weekend car once you save up some extra cash.

25 is also the age you can import a car not available in the US.

The problem with going "antique' is that (at least in Tennessee) you buy one license plate and that's it, for life. But that limits your driving to weekends and for educational purposes.
Insurance rates are a lot less, but that means a lot less driving.

My husband likes classic cars. I don't. I see them as death traps with an increased chance of not surviving a wreck because the safety features aren't there. Yup, you and he may be excellent drivers, but there are raving lunatics on the road and you can't always avoid them.

If you look at the roads you take everyday, what's the driving IQ of the other drivers?

Just don’t go on highways if you are worried about getting hit and hurt. Many old cars are built much stronger than new ones and the other drivers car will be the one getting fricked.

It’s 25 years, but mine have the same body style since 1962. And besides, all Land Cruisers are instant classics.
