Modern medicine?
If people quit eating like shite our nation's healthcare problem would fix itself in a decade.

Been eating keto since November. I've dropped 35 lbs and feel great.

I generally do a cyclical ketogenic diet and it works very well for me. I don't have any weight to lose, it's just about performance, cognition, and digestion.
I eat about 5% of of calories from carbs (net carbs) 5 days a week, and eat high carb two days a week on my heaviest training days (carb reload). This way you still get the muscle-gaining/restoring benefits of carbs.
I generally take 2-3 days to get back into ketosis after a weekly reload...so I'm spending maybe 3-4 days a week in actual ketosis.
To each his own, but I feel mentally sharper on a high fat diet, my digestion is better, and I put up better numbers in the gym. I'm certain it's not for everyone, especially those who run well on a high carb diet.
I eat TONS of veggies, by the way.

It's a big reason I can see myself eating this way for ever. Energy is up and level. I haven't had indigestion once in four months.

I've noticed that I feel sharper as well. Could be the constant energy instead of spiked insulin levels.

That makes perfect sense. Our brains are made up almost entirely of fat. Im not eating keto, but Im really eating alot more natural carbs and lower carb overall and have been eating much higher natural fat along with some basic intermittent fasting for a long time now and my mental focus and energy, especially in the mornings has been amazing.

It's calorie restriction that leads to the weight loss.
And this is true. I am not eating 5000 kcals of butter a day like someone mentioned. I am eating roughly 1800 kcals a day. But the high fat and protein aspects of the diet make 1800 kcals plenty.

As in a high fat diet? Do you mean "fad" as in the way the human being have eaten for their entire existence only to divert from that over the last few hundred years? If anything, the modern diet with "wheat everything", rice, starches and sugar is a fad.
People have been eating wheat and rice for a long time, right?
And no one will tell you to include sugar in your diet.

Life expectancy is also figuring in the way a large percentage of children died from diseases we now prevent.

1,800 calories?! For most males, unless you're diabetic, that's the minimum

What's a long time? I havent gone hiking in months. That a long time for me. Human beings have been around for approx 200,000 years and are documented to have eaten rice for less than 20% of that. I dont know how long we've been farming it and distributing it to the American consumer but it's got to be less than 100 years.

Except for people advocating to eat rice.

Benefits I'm noticing so far (little over 2 weeks in):
Weight loss in the mid section and lower body fat.
Increased mental alertness and focus
Great digestion and fullness and regularity of BMs.
Loss of a desire to mindlessly snack...the high fat content keeps you sated for far longer using the same number of calrories. Really don't get hungry between meals.
Sleep better and wake up easier.

I'm eating at a deficit to lose weight. I'll up it to maintenance levels in another month or so.
