I'm not having any nerve issues or pain in any area other than right in the middle on my lower back where the disc issue is happening. I've lived with this issue since the 90s but over the past few years it's gotten worse and now it's getting to the point I'm losing flexibility in the area. Im wondering if a block will help either of these issues.

I have horrible left leg pain on the outside of my thigh, prior to my shot I couldn't stand up for more than 10 minutes without it going numb then hurting like hell.

Did the doc say that the injury is possibly Mudcheck-related?

My pain switches sides and has crippled me a couple times for several days each time. Goes from mid back to hips and down outside of the thigh after one of my legs just gives out. Usually only one side at a time. And then when I bend over it feels like when your foot "wakes up from being asleep" from above my hips to my knees but x's 100.

I've had 2 discectomies. The first was L4-5. I got to the point I couldn't get out of bed. After surgery I was pain free and able to run again. Second time I was stupid and lifted something that was way too heavy. Popped L3-4. I had surgery immediately after confirming the herniation with an MRI. Again, I am 100% good now.

give a chiropractor a shot
i have deteriorated discs in my back, same ones you have affected. Doctors sent me to therapists, no help.
Chiropractor worked on me, and i was able to finish my senior year of football, and able to sleep with no pain.
When it was affecting me, we were hitting the sleds, dropped, rolled, and run to right. i hit it, went to ground to roll, and layed there as my back burned and i felt like i was locked.
Physical therapy did nothing. being all cracked and worked by the chiropractor worked wonders.
Not saying it will work for you, but it is always worth a shot.

A Dr found a birth defect in my back 26 years ago. I have a herniated disc l4,l5 that pinches the neve's coming out of the spine. Numbness, pain down the left leg. I've had sciatic nerve blocker injection, epidural steroid injections (didn't help ). Also I'm inoperable due to heart / heart meds issues. Trying painkiller after painkiller. Good luck . Will add you to my prayer list.

I have an aqaintance who's had similar issues and went the pain management route and took pain meds to treat. He was a mess. He was lazy and overweight due to the meds. He ended up going on a regimen of stretching, working out and intensive physical therapy. He says his quality of life before the regimen was at a 4 now it's at 9. Look into something like that. It's a lifestyle change but could really help.

My advice....lose weight...strengthen your lower back and legs big time all the time....stretch it a lot..stretch your Hamms and glutes a lot

The fact that your pain isn't running out into your extremities makes me wonder what exactly a block would do. Herniations and bulges are usually only a problem when they're impinging on a nerve, and you will feel that out in the extremities wherever the dermatome dictates.
It may be muscle-related if the pain is localized in the middle on your back only.

I've had a bulging, later ruptured disc, in the same place.
I had two blocks. Neither really did anything. Then the rupture and ended up having surgery. I couldn't stand up the pain was so bad. I quit eating because sitting on the toilet was so painful. Lost 40 lbs waiting on the operation. By the time I got, the neurologist said that the nerve was black. If you can walk at all, I'd say try decompression therapy, NSAIDs, and exercise.

A block might help.
If it were me, I would do the following:
1. try the block
2. lose 15-20 lbs as quick as I could
3. Start taking Aleve twice a day (after the block has been performed)
4. Start doing stretching and core strengthening exercises as soon as the pain lets up enough to tolerate it.

So I just got home after having the nerve burn (rhizotomy) earlier today at L4/L5 on both sides. Procedure lasted about 20 minutes. I got there around 2:15 and I'm already home. I am definitely hurting but it's not the same pain and hopefully just from the procedure. I'll keep this updated over the next couple weeks

Day 2: pain is pretty bad today but all localized to the surgery area. Seems like my sciatic pain is gone.

Darth, it's a good idea to get a second opinion. I also have back trouble.
Be encouraged by the fact that the medical profession now has tons of experience and some great 21st Century technology.
Have you tried physical therapy? Swimming? I swim three kilometers a week and I think it has helped my back. Physical therapy helped me too.
And finally, Barbarossa could not have started much earlier because the spring muddy season lasted longer than usual that year. No way you'd want to start it in the muddy season.
