On top of natural caffeine (like in coffee) being good for you in moderation, coffee itself is good for your liver.

if caffeine does not really do anything for you mentally then you need to look at it a different way.

drinking water is EXTREMELY good for. I am addicted to it. I drink 150oz of water a day. Its good for your heart and also flushes out all of the toxins we put into our bodies from food and alcohol.

Yes, I piss all day long, but the health benefits outweigh the inconvenience.

Diet soda is the worst thing you can drink.

Drinking a reasonable amount of diet soda a day, such as a can or two, isn't likely to hurt you. The artificial sweeteners and other chemicals currently used in diet soda are safe for most people, and there's no credible evidence that these ingredients cause cancer or other long term health issues

Very common myth

quote:

"Aspartame is one of the most studied food additives in the human food supply," the FDA statement continues. "FDA scientists do not have safety concerns when aspartame is used under the approved conditions," meaning when people adhere to the established safe consumption limit of no more than 40 milligrams of aspartame per 2.2 pounds (1 kilogram) of body weight per day. (To exceed that daily limit, a 150-pound (68 kilograms) person would need to down more than a dozen cans of diet soda.)

Got my cup and maybe had three sips before I thought I was going to die. Head was pounding, heart was racing, and my hands were shaking. Never been able to drink caffeine since.

I had a similar experience after I cut out caffeine some years ago. I weaned off of it and eventually just didn't drink much other than maybe a Coke in the morning now and then. One day, I had some very dark ice tea at lunch and had several glasses. Within an hour, my heart was racing and I was taken to the emergency room with tachycardia. Had to be given Xanax or some equivalent via IV until my heart settled down. Scared me to death. I rarely drink caffeine since then. I assume I developed a sensitivity to it.

I had this issue a few years ago. Your tolerance is off the charts. I could drink a Bang with 300mg of caffeine and it did nothing. Sometimes I’d take a nap within an hour.

I slowly weened myself off of it. Stopping cold turkey will give you headaches. About a month later I had cut my intake in half. Now I just drink one cup of coffee in the morning. If I’m doing something where I need to stay up late, which is maybe twice a month, I’ll drink a Ghost in the afternoon but that’s it. No more consistent afternoon caffeine

I will probably drink 36-48 oz. of diet Dr. Depper or Coke Zero or something like that per day.

Could you switch to caffeine free versions? I know for me that I like the taste of caffeine free Diet coke better than the regular ones. Or just replace 1 or 2 a day with a glass of water? Take out one cup of coffee and 2 sodas and that is a pretty good reduction.

The governing body that says that also says those same artificial sweeteners cause cancer.

I'll pass on the risk and drink water.

It’s tough no doubt. I am a workout type guy and struggle with it as soda is everywhere and I like them all. I will go weeks/months without them as I hit the gym hard then I’ll inevitably fall off the wagon and go balls out for weeks at a time. The hardest part is the 3-4 days of constant headaches when I come off caffeine. You gotta get off it man. It’s terrible for your body. I feel waaaay better and less bloated off caffeine but it’s definitely a battle to stay off. But you and I both have to do it. It’s just horrible for you in every respect - teeth, gums, gut, metabolism, weight, skin, etc.

No, you feel way better and less bloated off soda. Caffeine doesn’t make you bloated and is not horrible for you in “every respect”. Soda is and if it’s your only source of caffeine, I can understand why you’re confused.

If the idea is to wean off, you can slow down what you take in by cutting out coffee and tea, choosing a non-caffeinated soda like a Sprite, etc.

But you will probably end up drinking a lot of water.

This. If you drink a lot of it, wean yourself off. You can reduce the number of cups or start drinking half caff and go down from there. I cut it out completely a few years back and had a headache for a couple of days, but that was it. Switched to decaf, then a few years later switched to half caff, but only one mug in the morning.

It's really not that hard. but once you dramatically reduce the amount of caffeine you are consuming, you'll notice that when you do drink something with full strength caffeine the effects are strong.

I'm addicted but I do not suffer from it. I would suffer if it gave it up.

Much the same that I am addicted to sex, my phone, college football, etc. Losing any of those things would not kill me but it would be rough.

Not all addictions are bad.

I have read that people who are ADHD (which I probably am) can at times have reverse effects from caffiene. But, if anybody has any advice I would greatly appreciate it!

Coffee definitely helps me wake up in the mornings, but I can fall asleep after drinking coffee or an energy drink no problem.

I was, and it was a freaking nightmare getting off of the shite. I will never, ever, let myself get addicted to caffeine again.
For me, it was sodas every day. I drank one with lunch and dinner, and probably another somewhere between. I was young and didn't think much of it. I never had that addicted feeling like I needed one, I just instinctively drank them.
One day I decided to get off my arse and get in shape. Sodas were the first thing I cut out which ended with migraine headaches almost daily for a month. It was absolutely miserable and a hell I will never put myself through again. In the end, it was worth it and I immediately felt better.
I still drink caffeine here and there, but definitely not consistently. The vast majority of it is crown and coke on Friday and/or Saturday nights. I'll have some tea at lunch maybe once a week. Other than that, it's all water and been that way for about 15 years now.

Gave up coffee this year, don't really drink any other caffeinated drinks. My health as a old man (61) had a hand in it as I have Afib and wanted to reduce the acid in my stomach. This is after drinking alot of coffee since i was a teenager, like two or three 24ox tumblers of it a day.

Easiest thing ever. After a month I didn't miss it. My wife still drinks it so I still get to smell it and I'll sip hers occasionally.

When I first started, thought I'd need a nap after lunch but actually found out it totally evened out my energy levels all day. And my mood, another advantage. And my stomach definately appreciates me not drinking coffee anymore.

Now I just have a tumbler of water (well water) I sip on all day.

But I know that coffee can have health benefits for some...in moderation of course.

Shits got me in the headlock.

I drink coffee from 7am to 4pm.

The killer is that every time I get within a couple hundred yard of a gas station, or am grocery shopping, I go in and get a Reign energy drink.

I still have my morning coffee, but I replaced soda with La Croix later in the day. Now I sleep better, and I’ve lost some weight.
