I have a safe deposit box at one. Haven’t needed to open it in a long time though.

Yes, because I get 3% on my checking balance on the 1st $20,000, then 0.9% on anything over that, as long as I use direct deposit and 20 debit card transactions (credit union). Also, it helps having a personal relationship with the loan officer.

I don't use a bank, I use a credit union. I do stop by there periodically to get cash or deposit checks, but I don't have to, but it's close to my office.

Also, vault services (aka safe deposit box). They aren't as common anymore but are still around.

I’ve had one for 30 years and don’t see why most people don’t. In house fire safe will work but I’m not crazy about a safe in the house.

Will, birth certificates, original documents, funeral instructions etc... for $40 a year it’s worth it.

And yes I still use 2 bricks and mortar banks.

I use USAA and love it. Switched from a brick and mortar. But I do foresee a problem when I buy my next house and need a cashiers check. Other than that, it’s just as good or better. But I also use them for insurance, so that plays a part in my decision over Ally.

I bought a Liberty safe last year and anchored it to my foundation. It weighs 845 lbs empty. I keep all of our documents there. And my guns before my boating accident.

I just went 4 years with no brick a mortar banks with who I banked with within 300 miles of me. Only time it was annoying was my first paycheck and they didn't have direct deposit set up yet. I had to mail the check cross country overnight to be deposited.

Oh and now that there are some around, I just got a cashiers check from one.

And I guess if your balance is small the interest difference is small, so if you're poor you might not care too much. Is that what you're saying?

If you believe wealthy people keep enough money in a DDA account to make them care about a 1% difference in return, then you’re definitely not wealthy.

That’s another thing the safe deposit box is for.

I do most of my banking online, but I have a branch next to my office that I go to couple times a month on average for random things

I am head of our Online Banking Department at a community bank that has 7 branches. There are still brick and mortar buildings because the baby boomers don’t even know what an address bar is to go to the website. They just rely on Google and get frustrated when they can’t find it. They want to be technologically savvy and try I give them that.

TBH you can scan all that and also know that your attorney has a copy too. And you probably should anyway.

All that said, $40/year is just beer money.

I still get a paper check with no option of direct deposit. I go deposit it and get a couple hundred back as cash every Friday. I hit the drive through and then go grab something good good for lunch so it’s not a big inconvenience. I have done the mobile deposit with my phone a few times though.

Mobile deposit FTW.

Most of the safes people have in their home are only rated to protect papers for a short time period and many of those are not rated to protect digital media at all. I have a safety deposit box,
