See them often around my house here in South Carolina. Also saw them all the time growing up in north Alabama.

wasnt there some tv show (youtube channel?) a couple years back where some fricking idiots put their hand into a glove full of these as some kind of 'coming of age' ritual and let them sting the frick out of their hand?
Yeah, this guy did it for national geographic Bullet ant glove - youtube
There was also an episode of Wild Boyz where Pontius & steve-o tried it. I can't find the video but they didn't even last 15 seconds.

I've seen two around my house in the last 2 weeks. Been in this house 8 years and never saw one till 2 weeks ago. I see them around work quite a bit. Never been stung by one so I leave them be when I come across them.
Edit: Had to google an image of the male with wings, never have seen one of those before.

Never heard the term cowkiller, we just called them cow ants when I was a kid. I see them periodically at our property in North Central La.

Yes, still alive too. Last time I saw one I put my foot on top of it and pressed the rest of my 200 pound frame down on it. It dead.
And as I answered in the previous thread they are wingless wasps and not ants. Insects have a head, thorax and abdomen as the cow killer has but it doesn't have the wings as wasps normally do.

We called them cow ants. Are ridiculously hard to kill, and only got stung once before I was 10. After that, one doesn’t mess with a “cow ant”.

I remember smacking one with a hammer a few times, and it did not bother him a bit. The military needs to study them.
