I did, taught 5th/6th grade one year and loved it.....I wasn’t certified, and someone applied for my position, so I was moved to another school.
After about 4 months I had enough, quit, and went back to my doing what i did before I taught.
It’s not an 8-3 job by any means, I often worked until 10/11 at night, and the Louisiana school system is very screwed up...the teachers had no backing, and the kids new that they could get away with anything with no consequence.
If you can teach at a descent school it’s not bad, but other than that the pay isn’t worth dealing with constant bullshite

Family member did. Was making good money at her job and just decided one day to be a teacher. Asked her why due to the pay cut she would get and she told me "the benefits/pension/retirement."

Flew up there, interviewed the next day and got the offer on the spot (Burger King needed a fry boy)
Accepted. Put my 2-weeks in last week.

I worked in the corporate world for 13 years. I took a job teaching adjunct classes at night and enjoyed it. A position came open and they offered it to me. It was a $2000 pay cut, summers off and some great benefits. I went from $77k to $75k and quickly went back up after one year. About to finish my 10th year full time. I enjoy it immensely.
It is higher ed, where professors make decent money. Not sure I could have taken the pay cut for high school.

What do teachers make, anyway? Like $25K?
That depends...

Maybe if you could spell"knew" and "decent" you might have had more success?

I’m a teacher, well not really Cause PE but still. It’s awesome, tons of vacation, out by 3 everyday, zero work stress and when I finish my Ed.D in December I’ll be right at 6 figures. You won’t be rich obviously but you can make decent if you do it right and the quality of life is solid.

An artist from the paper I used to sell ads for quit in his late 30's to teach. Quit teaching after less than two years because his students gave him a hard time about being gay.

If I ever pay off loans I would in a heart beat. Teach and coach basketball

Become an on-line tutor and do it part-time after work for a few months to see if it's worth quitting your current job.

I quit teaching after 7 years. I had the easiest job in the world. Middle school PE. We literally did nothing all day. And it was the most mind numbing thing. I would come home exhausted from literally doing nothing. Felt like I would accomplish nothing each day. Coaching was even more frustrating because every parents thinks their kid is going to the pros. “But coach I don’t get it. When little jimmy and I play in the driveway, he always beats me. Why doesn’t he play?” Well dad...ever thought you may suck at basketball and your kid is just a little better than suck so therefore he beats you?
Yea it was nice to get off at 3 but when you coach, you practice till 5. Then you have to wait for all the parents to pick up their kids. Some of whom have little respect for your time so even though practice ends at 5, you’re sitting there waiting for an hour after practice for the kid to get picked up. Then there are games and meets in which you aren’t getting home until 8 or 9. Then, I worked every summer just to try and make a little more money.
Now I work at a job where yes it’s probably longer hours but it’s something different everyday and the days go by so quickly it doesn’t even feel like work. Nicest part is we get paid weekly and after the 2nd week of the month, I’ve already made equal to my monthly check as a teacher.

Don’t do it! I taught for a few years and I would not go back. Retirement is the only thing they’re able to dangle in front of your face to keep you around. Insurance isn’t as good as it once was. Parents suck. Louisiana DoE sucks. The extra volunteering sucked. Not being paid extra for working extra sucked. Coaching was fun and I still do it to this day.

Good friend of mine was in the nursing home business, making serious bank. And was miserable. On the clock 24/7/365.
About 15yrs ago, quit and became a jr. high PE coach. Walks around in shorts swinging a whistle and very happy. Works for 9 months, two weeks off at Xmas, one week off at Easter, and whatever other holiday there is.
He is not making the same money, but he and his family is not miserable either.

You should have taken them outside for flag football and played all time QB. Like playing Madden but with exercise.
