I’ve got a buddy that’s building an overland truck out of a F250 chassis. When he finishes, he’s going to drive it as far as he can every weekend and then fly back home. When he gets it to Alaska, he’s going to take three weeks off and go drive it around the state.
Being single with no kids and upwardly mobile occasionally has perks.

Alaska to Alabama in 1998. Took almost two weeks, because we did a bunch of touristy shite along the way.

My parents did it in the mid 70s. And my dad did it a couple of years ago.
My parents bought a camp in Kenai and go there from May till September. Dad drove his car up the leave it there.
Better story is my dads brother drove from Kenai to BR. Then to Orlando with 7 kids and a van back in mid 80s. Then drove back.

It's a fantastic thing to do if you have the time. We took a summer off and drove from Georgia to Prudhoe Bay and most other spots in Alaska with road access. Did it in a camper van, there are lots of campgrounds and not so many hotels. Tent camping can work too. Best trip I've ever taken, I plan to do it again. But allow a LOT of time to do it right.

Better with two people. Some of the driving can be cut while one sleeps and one drives. Especially the first couple days getting through the us. Take top of the world highway. You won’t be sorry. Probably need to ship your guns to where you are going. I’m not sure if you’ll get through Canada with them.

Girlfriends dad quit taking his meds and ended up driving up there. Almost died from falling down in to a ravine and some asians found him and called 911

Fourchon would have been much closer and offers the same scenery.
Worked up there for a few years, never got to make the drive though. Would love to take my family up there one day.

twice, it's not too bad. planning is the key.
if you do go, make sure you drive through banff/jasper area. even if you don't stop, the beauty is unrivaled

Give yourself plenty of time.
Lliard Hot Springs is a must on the BC-Yukon Border.
The Cassier Highway is more scenic than the Alberta Route.
We took ten days when we did it, but if you wanted to see Banff etc you need longer.

In the summer, not very.
Theres a Canadian customs agent outside of Skagway that's an absolute arse though.

Of course.. you can absolutely drive to Alaska. It's not Louisiana where we get by on boats
