Getting close. Kind of surprised it's not delayed. Long time coming.

Damnit, why can’t they have cameras on the rocket like spacex.
Posted on 12/25/21 at 6:23 am to WhuckFistle
They trying to keep costs down.

1970s animation. But at least it’s up there

Oh. They have a camera in the fairing.

forgot about this. assuming it didn't blowup?
Posted on 12/25/21 at 6:49 am to Asharad
It didn't blow up. It's off the rocket now and headed to L2

the commentator is a little too excited. I think he is crying

It's a pretty big deal. One of the most complex and expensive things ever built by humans.

I'm still worried about when it hits L2 and deploys. Hubble was almost lost because of an issue with its focus but we had the shuttle to use as a repair platform for people to hands on fix it.
If there is any issue with this one, it's fricked.

Yeah they didn't grind the mirrors correctly. Wonder how much of an arse-chewing the people responsible got over that

Surprised there was no thread on this today... Thought we had a few space nerds on here

We're piss drunk. Webb is safe for the time being and it's prime drinking with family and then fighting with family time.
We're gonna worry more about webb in a month.
White trash who understands the ins and outs of orbital dynamics signing off.

True we still have a long way to go. I just think its crazy all the shite that has gone into this.

Nah that’s a stretch, I’d probably give that honor to the LHC. But yeah it is a big deal though for sure and I was worried about it (still am) and just hoping it gets to L2 and unfolds properly and works right.

I was upset that I missed the launch but I had no clue it was so early. You know those guys are still nervous as hell. One thing doesn’t work right and it’s space junk.
