50...no big deal, other than all that nasty "radiator fluid" you have to drink. Have another one scheduled next month now that I am 60.

then you are probably going to die of colon cancer... That is a very common cancer that kills a hell of a lot of people...and it is basically preventable if you get colonoscopies when specified.

Co-worker had one. They snipped the colon by accident. Almost died. In ICU forever. Was never able to return to work.

Got one at age 50. If you have to get one don’t eat the day before and drink about half of that crap they make you drink.
I had minor hemorrhoids before the prep...after literally shitting all GD night, until all you’re shitting is that nasty liquid, I had major hemorrhoids after that. Required surgery for removal...I’ll never have another one. But no polyps were found.

Ask for PREPOPIK® as your prep.
Two 5 ounce doses does the trick. No guzzling down a gallon of meds.
Make some Jello (no red or purple) ahead of time for fast/purge day. It's the only "solid" food you can have, and it makes you think you are eating something. White grape juice is good too.

I will certainly ask for that!

Atvwhat age did you get one?
ETA, the prep is by far the worst part of the whole thing. Get moistened wipes. Procedure itself is anti climatic: fall asleep, wake up, don't really feel violated.

I agree he should get a colonoscopy, but per the CDC for a man age 50, the risk of developing colon cancer over the next 20 years is 1.8%, slightly less for a woman, so the odds are he will not die from colon cancer.

Kept putting it off and finally at age 60 my family doctor scheduled it for me.
Found cancer and I had surgery and they got it all. Follow up colonoscopies show me clean as a new baby.
I thank my family doc every time I see him.

FYI they have been working on a blood sample test for some time now and the goal is to hopefully replace the colonoscopy. It's still a ways away. There is nothing like direct visualization, but at least you will not have to worry about a perfed bowl.

You never know how bad you want to live until you are faced with the alternative. I had a scare with melanoma and it changed my life.

From The Office:
Michael: [knock at Michael's Office door] Yeah?
Oscar: You wanted to see me?
Michael: Yes, Oscar come on in. Close the door if you would. Thank you, thanks so much for talking to me.
Oscar: Yeah sure.
Michael: I'm going in for a procedure today.
Oscar: Is everything okay?
Michael: Yeah, it's routine. I'm just a little bit scared.
Oscar: I'm sure everything will be fine. [pulls up a chair] What do you? What's the procedure, if you don't mind my asking?
Michael: It is a colonoscopy.
Oscar: Okay.
Michael: In your experience, what should I be expecting in terms of sensation or emotions? [Oscar looks irritated and frustrated] Is there anything I can do to make it more pleasurable for me or for Dr. Shaundry?
Oscar: [sighs] Oh my God.
Michael: My main concern, should I have a safe word?
Oscar: Yeah. [Oscar gets up and walks out]
Yes, I've had one at 33 years old. The prep is rough. The procedure itself is nothing. I'm not doing it again until necessary because I have no desire to do the prep.

First was in my 30s. Have had two since then. Not a big deal.

Had one a week ago. 1 large polyp removed and I've been shitting green ever since.

Had one at 30 due to family history and was having some problems. Flushable wipes are crucial for the prep the night before. Get a good book or a fully charged iPad.
And be sure the flushable wipes are not Clorox wipes as I’ve found out there is quite the difference. My arse was on fire and I smelled like bleach but my Dr. Was impressed with my enthusiasm.
My tip is schedule your procedure as the first one or as close to the first as you can. Wake up, get it done and eat.

That chart shows that men over 60 have a 4+% chance of getting colon cancer which is not far from what my doctor told me. He told me 1 in 20 people over 50 will get it.
Thats a lot.
I know three people who have had. I don't know three that have had a heart attack.
I got my first this past year at 59 and I am glad I did. No problems. (if your doctor order nausea medicine with your cleanse take it!! I was very nausea for about 5 minutes and took the medicine and it stopped. Should have took it from the beginning.)
The procedure is nothing.
It is amazing how many they do at Oschner BR. Feels almost like an assembly line. There were very professional and nice. Went in at 6am and was finished with everything including check in, changing clothes twice and the procedure by 8 I think. Got a nice breakfast on the way home.

when I turned 50 my GP said do it so I did. The turbo lax cleaned me out good the process was plain I slept through it. One thing no one admitted yet is once ya all cleaned out they blow ya up with air to expand ya colon so they get a good look I woke in the recovery area with very noisy gas. Didn't bother me none but the lady in the room was having the same problem and bright blushing red.

44......had multiple Diverticutis episodes and the final blow was a tiny bit of blood.
I was anxious as hell but it ended up being a good quick nap. As many will say, the prep SUCKS!
No polyps and only a confirmation on moderate Diverticulosis. Cold forcep biopsy as negative as well.
