Many years ago while in college I belonged to Teamsters Union Local # 5 under Ed Partin who served under Jimmy Hoffa.

Yep, pretty much.

For out of all people, a HR person to tell employees that during bargaining is saying that unions are “antiqued, old and useless”. Slanderous, and can be discriminatory if an employee is older-borderline elder.
ETA: I worked HR my first 10 years outta college, and my mom and grandma are retired HR professionals. I’ve had my share of collective bargaining.

Let's get them River Pilots in here to talk. Who else makes $100's of thousands for driving a boat?

So they're like a River Consultant

I guess i'm dumb enough to pay $140 a month in annual dues to earn a scale minimum rate of $4500 a week. Sooo stupid.

I don't know how you managed to reply to me, yet quote someone else.

Janitors have unions, unions are everywhere. Not all janitors are shitty but a lot of ppl in construction unions are shitty and hide because they can’t work for someone or sell skills above union. They pay and have no say.

Unions still work for people hired out of union halls, like construction trades.
An electrician moved to town because of his wife’s work. Knew no one here. He called the local union hall and got jobs right away. Pretty handy.

Never worked a day under a union offshore, I'm a millwright now working in a papermill.
Offshore when things were booming the hand had the power when you got a slow down the companies had the power. You could be fired on the spot for anything they thought was a company violation.

I have worked for companies big and small. None Unionized. I have never been treated like shite or screwed over. This is some Union Boogeyman talk. A company will not even exist very long if it treats its employees like this.
The company I work for is a multi-billion dollar company. All their mills in the US are union. They go to great lengths to put the screws to their employees every chance they get. Our head of HR is a liberal woman not from our area, that should be enough to know how she acts.
Maintenance has some good guys in top positions they do a lot to shield us from the corporate bullshite. That's why 90% of our department are hardworking guys. We are known throughout the company and the industry for it.

Yeah, their system works pretty well. I think those are the primary unions that seem to still serves both employer and employee well.

There are people I knew who were in a union and in election years they used to get something mailed to them showing who they suggest they vote for. They were 100% democrat then it was like all of a sudden they were die hard republicans.
I am not sure, but it seems like unions... At least in South Louisiana, isn't as strong as they were just.. 10-12 years ago. Not sure what happened.
