Drive to New Iberia and go to Brother's Insurance. They renew and you won't have to deal with idiots

I’m in the same situation. I left 10 years ago and sold my car in another state. Evidently my plates were expired when I sold my car 10 years ago and now the LA dmv wants to penalize me while I was a resident in California. I sat on the phone for two hours and nobody picked up.

LINK ?
You can check the status of your license here and it will tell what the flag is for and if it involves the vehicle you sold. I had a similar experience personally and I sent the information in that they requested just like you did but I did get a response once the issue was resolved. I would try to find that request and resubmit everything. I am an insurance agent and we see stuff like this more than you would think.

It's states plainly that this can not be handled at a local office and can only be done through this telephone number or email...but hey, thanks for the help
I’ll bet you $100 before you get this resolved you will have to make a trip- perhaps by their invitation with an appointment time- to the OMV.
I had the same exact experience when I sold a truck. Cancelled the insurance AFTER all
The paperwork was done and OMV still claimed I’d let the insurance lapse. Ended up having to go in person to get it resolved.

I went to renew my DL
^More for general advice, this probably wouldn't work with the insurance flag but I am curious how it would've been handled by the app instead of an OMV worker

So got it cleared up...here's what happened.
First, like I said...everything they told me to do was what I was doing. The DMV is no horrible that the last thing I wanted to do was to drive across town to go in person to do a thing they told me SPECIFICALLY they would not handle in person.
But, I finally decided WTF and called them. Called a nice lady on the phone, begged her to help since I'm going out of town, etc. she first told me to go to the Express Lane page others have suggested, but I told her I'd done that and that it stated plaining that there WAS no outstanding issues with the OMV, but that there was SOMETHING on their end that was preventing the local place from issuing the new license.
So, she went off for a bit and came back and said, "It's all clear now." I said, great...but what was the issue? Turns out it WAS that old vehicle sale. They had flagged it when it first happened but had never bothered to unflag it when they had received what they requested...so it was just sitting there and there was no way for us to know. Awesome.
Anyway, it's all done...appreciate all the help.
Even yours I guess...

Wake up early and be one of the first in line at the DMV - OR - do what I do and take a day off and drive out to a dmv in the middle of nowhere and be in & out in ten minutes. Ladies choice.

had an issue with my insurance as well and I called my insurance agent and they sent over some kind of form to the DMV
Had this also on a car I bought new and never had the insurance lapse on it. Same ins company the entire time. I think it is a money grab by the DMV. Send a letter saying you owe a $100 and see who pays it. I got through on the phone and dude cleared it up because my info was current and didn't show any glitches. Dude said the computer did that sometimes.

Did you know there was an actual issue?
I called my agent and she took care of it from there

Are you guys serious with this?

I'd already renewed it like that multiple times and this was the time I needed to go IN PERSON to get it renewed.

I realize we all tend to deal with fricking idiots all day long, but give me a damn break...
The issue was that once I went in person, which was the way they said I had to do it this time, there was some mystery flag on my DL that could ONLY be dealt with by going directly through the labyrinth of the State OMV. None of that was my choice.
As it turns out, the idiots at LA OMV had not done what they should have done and remove a flag which never should have been there and it took having to break their rules and deal directly with a field office (something they said 100% would not work.)

None of this happened when trying to renew a DL though, right?
Otherwise that makes sense. We got a letter from them saying the same thing...uninsured vehicle which we'd already sold. We'd waited to cancel the insurance until the day after we sold it obviously. We did not cancel the license plate as that was to be taken care of by the buyer we were told. When we got the letter we mailed the state what they said they needed, bill of sale, etc. Never heard back so we thought it was all done.
Turns out it WAS done, but nobody had bothered to remove the flag until I needed to get my DL renewed and hit a wall.

You have to go to a reinstatement office. Not a quick dmv. I had this happened to me when I totaled a vehicle. Got total claim from insurance, bought new car, got new insurance, turned in plates on old car, got receipt. State never filed the cancellation notice so when I cancelled the policy on my old vehicle they flagged it.

Where do you find the reinstatement offices? Is there a list of those with locations?
Posted on 6/1/23 at 11:28 am to GeauxTigerTM
Go to one of these full service notary places that specialize in DMV matters. They are much more efficient than the DMV and can often short circuit problems. I know several in Jefferson Parish but not in Lafayette.

These places will tell you they can’t handle insurance issues

LA OMV Website
Type in your city and then go down to services and select reinstatement.
