There is a chance he is not SOL. If the area is declared a disaster area by the Governor there is a chance he could be eligible for FEMA funds. Happened a few years back to my dad in a small Mississippi town where torrential rains caused a creek that hadn't overflowed in decades to put several feet of water in the houses in the city. He got enough to fix his place. Really depends on how many people are effected in his area.

Being in a non flood zone what's their options other than being SOL?

He better hope he gets a busted water pipe real quick. Other than that, he's SOL.

If this thing keeps getting worse it could end up being a national disaster and FEMA would step in, meaning he may get some grant money and some ability for low interest loans.

I'm sorry to hear about this.

There is absolutely no reason for anyone to not have flood insurance. If you live in a flood zone, one day you will need it. If you don't live in a flood zone, it is dirt cheap.

Rains fall, ditches and drains get clogged and back up, and this is the result.

Please... people... if you are in the southern half of the US, get the dang insurance. For peace of mind.

Loans are through the SBA and are usually at 4% interest up to 50k.

He can hope for a FEMA handout or other welfare from the government that is provided for people who don't take care of their own shite.

Sorry you have a government leech in your family and he should have been more responsible.

He's SOL.

Am I doing this right OT?

In reality there will be fema representatives here shortly and there will be emergency funds available to him.

For some reason, it seems like the department of transportation has the best communication system for people when this happens (in Louisiana).

There will probably be food provisions too.

My wife and I were flooded in the Sabine River flood back in March. We were insured but many that weren't received FEMA money. It must be declared a disaster area and I believe it was capped at $33,000

Would you be covered if you purchase it today and the house floods tomorrow or Monday when the rivers crest?
