After hiking at Clark creek one time. I hit a lot of devils lettuce. I was exhausted. Me and two of my buddies fell asleep on I-12. I woke up in the right lane going 45 mph.

I passed out on I-20 driving from Shreveport when hammered. The shoulder ridges woke me up. Don’t know how. Thanks God!

yep. had a bad accident. ran over several small trees and was in a coma for 3 days. Caused a lot of subtle but very difficult problems for many years.

I used to have to drive to New Orleans 3 days a week for work. I would have to be there for 6 so I’d have to leave BR at around 4:30. It happened all the time where I was nodding off and then had to roll all the windows down to stay awake.
Dip also works, so does having something cold to drink.

Was driving into work one morning about 4 years ago, next thing I know my truck is bouncing up and down. I open my eyes and I’m driving through someone’s ditch/yard in front of their house. I get lucky and the ditch flattens out a bit, so I’m able to correct it and pull back out onto the road. Scared the hell out of me, I didn’t even stop, just kept going.
When I settled down I realized how lucky I really was. About 200 yards from where I ran off the road was a huge holler that fell off at least 50-75 feet.

I was pretty lucky too, there was a huge dropoff probably about 40/50 yards up the road.

Yep, scariest thing ever.

I have experienced that once or twice in my lifetime. It IS scary stuff. The best thing to do at that point is to pull in to a safe location and get out and walk around a bit, maybe get some hot coffee. And if you're REALLY tired and sleepy, just pull in for the night somewhere. Just not worth the risk.

Definitely. Those things are great.

I was driving back to BR from a long night at the Golden Nugget in Lake Charles. This was the next morning. I pulled over in Crowley and slept for about 2 hours in my truck in the Lowe's parking lot. I could just see myself flying off the basin bridge had I not pulled over.
I once called 911 on someone in front of me that kept crossing the middle line. I thought he was drunk. 911 operator asked me to keep following him to let the cops know where he was heading. Once the cops pulled him over it turned out he was a plant baw, exhausted from working those fricked up 12 hour rotating shifts.

Fell asleep on I-12 about halfway between Mandeville and BR, it was only for a second or two, but slid over into the other lane, clipped the back quarter panel of another vehicle. Scary as shite to wake up to that. God watched over me that day, not only did I not kill anyone, but the total damage to both vehicles was only like $700.

One Friday after Thanksgiving in the early 80's, I was driving to my job at a men's clothing store in Monroe. I went home from NLU to my parwnt's for Thanksgiving, so I was driving from Farmerville.
I cut through Sterlington, and got on Moon Lake Road. On one of the remote parts of the drive I felt something, woke up, looked and saw I was about to hit a brick mailbox. I cut the steering wheel, lost control, and went off in to the ditch on the other side of the road. If a car had been coming at just that moment, I'd have hit it head on.
I opened my door and stepped out into knee deep water. It being the early 80's, I had no cell phone to call for help. I had to walk about three quarters of a mile to a house, and knock on a stranger's door. The lady there let me use her phone to call a friend, who came and used his wench to get me out of the ditch.
The only damage to my car was a dent in the front bumper, and the driver's side front fender. I drove on in to work, and had it checked out a couple of days later. I was very lucky.

Nearly.
Went to Coachella in '05 but forgot to book a hotel room nearby until everything was booked. Had to stay in Blythe, which was a 90 minute drive each way.
After an entire day in the sun, it was tough staying awake on that pitch black drive. I tried every trick in the book. Windows rolled down, music loud....you name it. None of it helped. I was just so damn sleepy. I made it safely, but it was awful.

Made a trip from Arlington to Patterson, La after my last college track meet (ran the 5k that evening after running the 10k two days before). Left the track at UTA at around 11 I think. I honestly don’t remember the last 2 hours of the trip (from Opelousas on) so I probably fell asleep at some point during that stretch. Vaguely remember getting into my home and going to my bed and crashing until like 2 or 3 the next day.
