Any of you guys that got in a wreck get any sort of ticket? You are putting people's lives in danger. Should be punishable.
I didn't get a ticket. Probably should have.
I wrecked right in front of a rundown dive bar, and the baws that helped me out of the car told the cop I wasn't speeding. Really, I was doing 65 in a 55 and probably touched 70 or 75 when I fell asleep.
I was a collossally stupid teenager with horrible insomnia. I had slept maybe 10 hours combined in the 3-4 days preceding it. Was the last day of my freshman year in college. I was super tired driving home, made it to my girlfriend's house, spent the evening with her, fell asleep on the 20 minute drive to my parents' place.
I drove home, believe it or not. Car was perfectly operational, found out the next day the frame was bent half an inch.

I dozed off a dozen times driving back from North Mississippi Saturday.

I've never fallen asleep that I'm aware. I have had a couple of late night drives home where I have no recollection of parts of the trip. Driving from Forest, MS back to WBR and have no idea of what happened between the MS/LA state line and Oneal Lane. Completely blank.

Twice. Once on the way back from Florida, my friend woke me up screaming because we were in the median on the interstate doing 80.
Another time I fell asleep at a red light, not sure how my foot stayed on the brakes.

Been there..... Fell asleep driving home a few years back took out an exit sign on I10 in BR.
Called EBRSO, truck was totaled and had to pay for DOTD to reconstruct the sign.
Scary shite. Luckily those sign are designed to break away at impact. The I beams are not cemented into the ground. They actually are bolted into concrete providing a shear point.

Once. Never again.
Right after it happened, I pulled into a Walmart and slept for an hour.

Seems like it happening once scares people so bad they make sure it never happens again. Now that I know it can happen I'll be sure to pull over, drink a red bull, take a nap, whatever I need to do to make sure I stay awake.

I did in Gainesville, TX about 15 years ago. Nodded off for who knows how long and drifted into the fast lane and nearly clipped an old lady in a Bonneville. I woke up and we both swerved and over-corrected and slid through the grass. I was going about 75 on I-35. Luckily no damage for either vehicle. We missed everything.
Did an overnight guided red snapper trip in Port Aransas the night before. I had to be back in Wichita because I was out of leave. I was getting ready to head to the desert for a while. I chugged Mountain Dew and chewed sunflower seeds for the rest of the 5 hours that day. The thought of that still scares the crap out of me. Not one of my finer moments.

Fell asleep one time coming home from NOLA to BR after Mardi Gras. I had been on Bourbon Street all night and was almost home, on Airline Highway in Prairieville. I fell asleep and rear-ended a Jeep that was at a stoplight. There was minimal damage to the Jeep, but his trailer hitch went straight into my radiator and my car was totaled.
Luckily for me, by this time it was like 7:30 AM so I told the cop that I was looking down to change a CD. I had no idea what lane I was in or how fast I was going. I told the cop I was doing 45 mph in the left lane and he seemed okay with that answer. I think I got a ticket.
I went home and slept for 12 hours, woke up to pee, then slept for 10 more hours.
That experience scared the shite out of me and I don't even risk it anymore.

Left St. Pete about a year ago to go visit my parents in Cocoa Beach.
Fell asleep about 30 minutes into the drive and woke up driving 60 with my passenger side tires in the grass on the side of i4.
Scared the absolute hell out of me. I couldn’t shake being tired and could barely keep my eyes open so I called my dad and told him what happened and made him talk to me for the remaining 2 hours of the drive.
I’ve never been that sleepy in my life and it came out of nowhere. Only time it has ever happened.

Calling someone on the phone and talking to stay awake is a good idea, hadn’t thought of that one.

I take a nap on the basin bridge when i'm driving to work early AM. I set an alarm for 15 minutes, set my cruise to 50 mph, and wedge my knee under the wheel.
On the real, yeah. I was working nights in baton rouge and dating a girl in lake charles. I would get off at about 3 am on saturday mornings and drive over after work. Hit the rumble strips and jerked awake. scared me bad enough to not be sleepy anymore

I did one time. I worked night shift for one summer right out of high school before my first semester at LSU. The very first drive home in the morning I dozed for a second and ran off the road onto the shoulder. Scared me tremendously.

A trick i've done recently, is just chewing on a plastic coffee stirrer after I finish my drink. I don't know why but it keeps me busy and focused on the road.
Could be the coffee too I suppose.

My gf in college and I were driving from Shreveport to BR early one morning before daylight. I drove the first 1/2 while she slept. She took over driving on Hwy 71 south of Ellick. I laid my seat back to take a nap and she dozed off. She went off the right side slightly and overcorrected to the left and wound up hitting the ditch and flipping the car. I awoke to an upside down car sliding through a field with grass and mud coming through the busted windshield.
Needless to say, I cannot sleep in a car when someone else is driving; and this was 25 years ago.

yep, drove to ole man river's in avondale to see a band play. left at like 4:00am. Was about 6 miles from home on judge perez. fell asleep car went up on the median then down into the crossover, back up onto the next section of median before i could regain control and stop.
stopped across both east bound lanes. luckily there were no other vehicles on the road. could have easily died that night at 19 yrs old.
ETA: was WIDE awake the rest of the drive home.
