I actually had the surgery yesterday. Doc removed some polyps that went deep in the sinuses. Also widened the passages between sinuses. Surgery took about an hour under general anesthesia. So far recovery hasn't been bad. Lotta blood, little pain, nothing some pain killer can't handle. We'll see if it improves breathing.

Hope recovery continues to go well, good luck.

Doctor told my mom and sister that they have significantly improved the various sinus surgeries, particularly the recovery discomfort, in the last couple of years.

Had a nasal polyp removed twice. First time he went in through the nose to cut and scrape it out. It came back so the second time he cut between my gum and lip and went through that way to be sure all the polyp was removed. As someone said earlier, not being able to breath through my nose was down right miserable. Surgery and recovery were a breeze. Made the mistake of leaving the packing in after surgery the first time as dr insisted to. When it was time to remove it I felt like he was pulling my brain through my nostril. Second surgery the first thing I did was pull the packing out as soon as I got home.

I had the balloon type surgery, opened up airways. Best thing I ever did. Suffered from sinus headaches for years. No they are gone. Done by > Wold, Christian Dr - Red River Ear Nose & Throat Associates in Alexandria LA

Recovery was not fun, took about 2 weeks, but it was worth it. Right after the surgery it felt like I had been kicked in the head by a horse. Was hard to breathe for a few days until the packing came out. After that there was some bleeding for another week or so.

I can breathe and sleep so much better now though, and all my sinus infections are gone. I would definitely have it over again if needed. The only downside is loss of most of my sense of smell, maybe a third of what it used to be, if that. But I am not young so maybe that is part of it. Food tastes the same.

Recovery fricking sucks. I had surgery where they corrected a deviated septum, removed tonsils, and removed tissue from my throat due to sleep apnea. Felt like 3 people beat the frick out of me.

I was in ICU for the night after surgery and the pain was fricking ridiculous for a week after.

I had a deviated septum repaired and sinuses scraped or whatever.

Released by doc and went home. Bleeding didn’t stop and my face started to swell with blood. Wife took me to hospital as blood was literally leaking out of my eyeballs. Had to put me back under to resuture something.

Besides that, wasn’t too bad. Got release from hospital the next day and think I was back for half day of work the day after.

Even with my horror story, it was worth it. Breath much better. Sleep better. And zero sinus infections.l when I used to keep one about six months out of year. I’d do it again.

But my nose was f’ed up. Doctor asked me how many times I had broken it. When I said none, he said he’d done pro bono work on over a hundred prisoners and my nose was top three worst he’d ever seen.

One of my sons had sinus surgery. I forget the term but they bore out the septum, clip some things in there, pack the sinus cavity and you go home and recover. He said it was a good 5-6 day’s of mouth breathing, face hurting, pain pilling stuffing misery. He could do nothing but just sit or lay and moan.

It is what it is.

Recovery was horrible. Doctor gave me the option not to pack with gauze to speed healing. Started bleeding out that night got to make a trip to the ER. Every time he would pull out the gauze I was reminded of the magic trick with the never-ending handkerchiefs coming out of the sleeve. Yards and yards of bloody crap. I DO have fewer sinus infections now, but it is a toss up if you ask me if it was worth it.

Yes!

Add that to me gagging because it felt so disgusting.

Not good times. Not good times.

I had surgery to repair a deviated septum. I was basically only able to breathe through one nostril. Now I can breathe through both so definitely worth it for me.

Eta: went from 2-3 sinus infections a year to less than 1.

Recovery was more of an annoyance than 'bad' imo. Sleep at an upright angle for two weeks, clean your nose with saline solution and breathe through you mouth. The pain wasn't an issue.

Yes, I have had 2. Back in 1999, I was living with sinus infections. My GF at the time told me about Dr. Daniel Jacob. He operated on me for a deviated septum and opened my sinus cavities up.

The surgery was next to nothing. The day following the outpatient surgery I took a pain pill, and he removed the packing. It felt like a golf ball exiting my nostril. Pressure, no pain.

Once a week for the next 4 weeks, I had to go in to remove the dried blood and gunk. He would deaden the nostril and I felt nothing. He removed the guitar pick-like things and I felt like a new man.

I did not suffer another infection for 18 months.

My second surgery was 2 years ago for a polyp removal. Outpatient, no issue with pain.

I am on allergy shots now and have not suffered a sinus infection for over a year.

If I had to do it over again, I would have removed my tonsils. Now THAT is a brutal surgery as an adult.

I just had my eardrum rebult from grafted skin and this done.

LINK

The sinus surgery depends, my ENT said that smokers won't have much relief in the long long run. I have known people that have gotten the procedure done and it was worthless snot sucking. If you have polyps it is worth doing.

I had the surgery some years ago.
As far as the pain after surgery, not bad.
The recovery itself was absolute misery. With the swelling, it literally felt as if someone set concrete in my head from the top of my mouth up. I could not breathe through my nose AT ALL for about 1.5 weeks.
During the night, expect a good amount of drainage (blood and general mucus) to pour out.
Really miserable stuff.
I wouldn't do it again.

Currently sitting at home high on Vicodin from my surgery on Tuesday.
Nose is full of splints, hurts like hell, eyes wont stop watering and I have bad headaches.

Even with all that, I am glad I did it as it is getting better. I get the splints out on Wed and hope to enjoy Christmas for once being able to breath and smell with both sides of my nose.

I think everyone should edit and say what type of surgery they had. Makes a huge difference in what the OP might take as good advice.

Back in 2000 I had surgery to repair a deviated septum, and they did something to my turbinates to open up the blockage. I had a cast on my nose, and packing inside.

Talked to a coworker who had the balloon procedure, and their recovery was a couple of days instead of a week.

I had balloon sinuplasty a few years back. One nostril was 90% blocked and the other 50%. It was a piece of cake.

Had a broken nose repaired. Recovery sucked arse. Couldn't breathe with all of the packing in my nose. Made it almost impossible to sleep.ridiculous pain if you happened to bend over like to tie a shoe. cleaning it out with a q-tip felt like i was using a power drill.

was pretty straight until i hit it on a counter reaching into a cabinet. then had a basket ball bounce and hit the tip of my nose. both times saw stars.

tough to say if the breathing would have been better if not for those two incidents.

Not interested in doing it again
