How long was your recovery?

Several years back I hurt my back doing some work around my house (lifting something but I can't even remember what it was now). I was in a bed for about a week, if I would stand/walk/etc I would feel a shooting pain down my leg. That lasted for a few weeks. For the next couple years if I would do any sort of lifting, sitting in certain ways, or doing anything that put pressure on my back I would have back pain. Luckily I haven't dealt with that in these last 2 years.
I never went to see about it, so I don't really know what was wrong, but I'm assuming it was some sort of slipped disc or something in my lower back.

I injured L5 S1 working on a tree as well. It would incapacitate me for about 4 days every couple years for about 6 years. Over the last 9 or so, no problems.

We had 40% cut out of one of my wife's disks 3 years ago.
My recommendation: avoid surgery like the plague. My wife is worse off now than she was pre-surgery.

Probably gonna live with that one.
Once a disc herniates or your sacrum or sciatic nerve gets jacked, welcome to groaning everytime you get out of bed

Go to a chiropractor. Know too many people who have back surgery, and end up having 3 or 4 more, and still nothing changes

Two bulging discs in my lower left for decades now… dealt with the pain for far too long, ended up getting the x ray guided shots on two separate occasions.
Been pretty much pain free (other than usual stiffness at my age) for several years now and can’t remember the last time my back went out. Feel much better in my 40s than in my 30s. Might not work for everyone but has worked for me for quite awhile.

I had the surgery on July 12 and went to physical therapy for six weeks and the doctor told me to avoid bending (or twisting, as in golf) for six weeks.

Had this issue last Nov-Dec. I am 31 and still in pretty good shape. It was debilitating. Had to take a month off work doing MRI's and meeting with specialists. Got an epidural shot on Dec 23 and was back at work the following Monday. Hopefully it isn't something that will linger on but so far have had no major issues. I was in the service and work in a warehouse so I have done physical work and couldn't pinpoint if it was something that occurred over the years and finally became unbearable at some point or just a freak lifting thing. They didn't want to operate due to my age. I also started putting my wallet and other items in my front pocket.
My prayers for you though. I consider myself a pretty tough person with a high pain tolerance and this was absolutely miserable.

SI and C5/6 fusions for me so far.
Both helped minimize the pain I was having but it never fully goes back to normal.
I have at least 2 more degenerated discs that will have to come out at some point, thank the good Lord they don't hurt yet.

Yes, had L4 and L5 discectomy surgery about 10 years ago. One of the best decisions of my life. It still gives me problems every now and then if I get too sedentary, but nothing some simple stretching can't fix. It took a few years of agony before surgery became an option though. They'll try PT, nerve blocks, steroid shots, etc. first.
Start doing planks. Strengthening your core will help the lower back muscles relax a little. Best stretch I learned in PT was laying on my back on the floor, keep one leg flat on the ground, and pull the other knee up into your chest with your hands and hold it there for a few seconds. Alternate legs several times. Each successive one, you should feel your back loosening up a little more.

You my need only an adjustment that a chiropractor can do for you. They will X-ray you to make sure they can help. If it looks bad, you will be referred elsewhere.
The reason I mention a chiropractor is because I initially hurt my lower back when moving scaffolding when working on the ceiling of my great room in 1988. I had to sidle like a crab and bend over a bit and walk very slow as to not aggravate it. Pain was pretty severe.
This chiropractor worked me over and I walked normal again as I left her office. I went back twice a week for 2 weeks and all felt normal from that point on.

I would NOT recommend going to a chiropractor for disc or nerve issues.

3 surgeries on l-5 1992,2002, 2019. Learn to not lift stuff, steriod shots every 4 months and don’t get overweight

Yeah because a chiro will pop that herniated disc back in to place

They do more than popping stuff dipshit. I use to have lower back problems in high school. Went to a chiropractor, and haven’t had those issues since

Ah yeah those hot/cold packs and manual traction therapies are a solid alternative to an orthopedic doctor.
