Moved in 2010. Do not miss it.
When I go back (work trips or visit the in-laws, my parents left after the 2016 flood) it feels weird. Not like, "Ahhh, nice to be back," more like "Man I can't wait to leave and get home."

Moving in 3 years when my daughter graduates high school. The cities with Democrat mayors suck. Every fricking one. I live in Baton Rouge and it is a crime infested shite hole. I just bought my retirement home in the country. I'll spend weekends there until I can unass baton rudge.

If you shoot somebody in self-defense in Baton Rouge and they die there’s a strong likelihood that you will be facing second-degree murder charges. That’s a guarantee in New Orleans.
You’re truly on your own in combating violent crime in Baton Rouge, where BRPD is useless.

I left Nola around 4 years ago, no regrets. It’s nice living in a clean, functional community where I feel safe and get way more bang for my buck with housing.

I wanna move. Wife has a mom that is sick holding us here for the considerable future.
I love Louisiana but am ready for a change of scene

Moved out of BR 5 years ago. Don’t miss it. Wish I could convince my parents to move, but their whole lives are there. I feel guilty that I’m not physically there for them in their advanced age, but if I had given into that guilt then my kids would have to grow up in that shithole and, assuming I raised them right, they’d go through the same dilemma I did. It’s cold to say this but my kids come before my parents, so away I went.

Not me. After being gone for 12 years, I’m ready to move back. Wife does not agree so we’re stuck in NOVA till retirement in 15 years.

A whole bunch of YES incoming from the same posters who will still be griping about NOLA and BR in 3 years

Went home for Thanksgiving and this was EXACTLY how I felt. Visited all the old stomping grounds. Every single one of them has decayed at an astonishing pace. The area around LSU + St. George are the only two places in BTR that are even remotely inviting to me anymore. I don’t know if moving to a better place raised my standards or what. I’m not even in a particularly amazing place now, it’s just gotten so bad back home. It sucks.

Because there’s no push back. Places continue to go to shite that were otherwise “nice”.
You know how brazen you have to be to organize a burn out contest in the middle of one of the busiest intersections in town after a major event?
Criminals are laughing at cops in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. What passes for “safe” is questionable when shootings occur in the middle of the day in front of places like the mall of Louisiana.
But everyone will just bury their heads further into the sand and allow it to happen.
I have a girl (no pics) in Sacramento. I tell her about what goes on down here and she asks “Why haven’t I seen this on the news?”
People across the country have no idea what’s going on. We’re just so damn used to it that we’ve become numb to a normal/safe environment.

Cops have been neutered by the mayor but people like me are minority here now. This is what the majority want so there's little chance it's going to change.

Not enough people have this attitude. Yeah it’s bad but the culture is worth salvaging imo

Nah, it's an average state where unfortunately the low quality people have outnumbered the high quality people.

Tampa is 100x worse than NBR. Stay away. Don’t move to Tampa or you and your family will die. Please stay out of Tampa. Don’t come. You have been warned.

For 20 years I told my company I wouldn’t consider relocation. Then I did. I’ll never return. Haven’t even been back to visit in 3 years and I don’t miss it. I wish I’d moved in my 20s.
