Homicides in major American cities ticked up in 2021, with a 5% increase from 2020 and a 44% increase over 2019, according to a new analysis of crime trends released Tuesday by the Council on Criminal Justice (CCJ).
The study drew on crime data from 22 cities nationwide — including Atlanta, Detroit, Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Memphis, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia — and found an additional 218 murders last year, compared to 2020. And while the overall increase in the homicide rate slowed, murder rates in St. Petersburg, Florida, (108%) and Austin (86%) skyrocketed, while Washington, D.C., (16%) also recorded a notable increase.
Six of the 22 cities saw their murder rates drop, however, with sizeable dips in Seattle (25%) and Omaha (24%

In order to get away from crime you have to move to a smaller city/town. That's bottom line. Its safer to raise a family in a smaller city/town than it is in a bigger city and the suburbs around those cities.

We moved 3 years ago to TN. I agree with you. I'm leaving in about 15 minutes from a week long visit. Was great to see family and old friends, but ready to leave now.

My youngest son was born & lived in La. for his first 25 yrs. He then moved to Calif, then Las Vegas. His words "I saw the same crap everywhere". He's been in Japan now for 6+ yrs, happily married with a new daughter, married to a beautiful Japanese young lady. He's never coming back, claiming not only is their culture totally different, improved, but their morals are 1000 degrees different than here as well. People there ride bikes everywhere, to the extent that in some areas, there are more bikes than cars. I saw first hand, when I went to visit last year people there routinely park their bikes & leave them there. Hundreds, everywhere. Nobody steals them. No littering, anywhere. People are polite, friendly, everywhere, even in Tokyo, the 4th largest city in the world.

Idaho had 41 murders last year. Not Boise, the state. BR had 170
There are mid sized cities that don't have nearly the crime rate we do. Hell, most of them don't actually.

Les Miles has lost control of Idaho murders.
ETA: Knoxville also had 41 murders in 2021. Roughly the same size as BR.

why wait? If where you live is so unsafe is it wise to let your child finish school here? makes no sense.
Did you read what I wrote? My ex isn't moving so I can't move with the kids.
And I and my kids are safe. Kids in private schools that live in nice neighborhoods are not getting gunned down. That doesn't mean Baton Rouge isn't a cesspool.
