Any major chess players/collectors here?

I just picked two Anri chess sets. One is a Montsalvat set. I've bought Anri before, but never chess sets. Apparently, the Montsalvat set is worth about $1500, the other about $600.

These are some beautiful pieces

I have a little collection.

My brother got me a polish 3-way chess set and I've been trying to find two other people who play chess to play with.

I have 3d chess as well, all glass set.
I usually get a set every time I go to Mexico.

I play chess (1700-1800 USCF) but I've only met probably a half-dozen players who were chess set collectors.

Don't get me wrong, there are definitely serious collectors out there but chess players and collectors are completely different universes. It's exceedingly rare to meet someone who is serious about both.

These will most likely go to an Anri collector, more than a chess collector. Anri makes amazing stuff and is not cheap.

Not a collector. Just a player on Chess.com. I open with Scotch Opening about 95% as white.

When I see white start with his king pawn, I start with queen's knight. Scottish defense is so common you just work the sides and leave your central defense up.

Man. I need to find two people. Lol one had this 3-way set for two years and never played it once.

I know more checkers people than chess people.

Beautiful set. Had no idea there were people that collected chess sets, or that they were even collectible.

Haven't played in a few years now. I don't really know anyone to play with. My wife knows how to play, but isn't at my level, so it's not quite as fun.

Last time I played seriously was when I was in high school 10 years ago.

I used to play.
Got slaughtered by the ncaa champ Im in college who was highest rated player south of nyc, was from phila.
Beat #2 of pittsburgh, pa.
Good but not great.
Terrific at middle to end game. Never willing to memorize the great openings.
When you play top players you are up against all past games.
I had my moments.
Lost a game in high school to lake charles high kid, also jewish, in which i had promoted 3 pawns to queen.

That's pretty cool. I can play, but not that great at it. My grandpa taught me. He learned when he was in WWII and he said where he was stationed, they had a chess board and they would play all the time, during down time. He loved to play.. He was pretty good, my uncles and other people would play him, every once in awhile they would get lucky and beat him, but more times than not he would beat everyone.

My uncle was like this. He taught me how to play, and I only ever beat him once. He was amazing.

Crazy part is, he had had a brain tumor and basically had part of his brain removed. Couldn't use one side of his body. But still kicked arse at chess.

Yeah, the set in the OP, while I think it looks really cool, would actually be pretty horrible to play with. Very ornate sets like that distract from being able to concentrate on the actual game. They're really pretty much exclusively just for decoration.

A set that I was actually looking at buying that is more playable is the Dubrovnik set. It's pretty iconic because of Bobby Fischer. I found a seller based out of India that is selling them for a reasonable price, but I haven't decided if it seems too sketchy or not.

As some of the posters here already know, I'm an avid player. Have won over 200 tournaments and am on pace to reach Grand Master by the end of 2018
