Chad lost his family. That's why he needs to be released so that he can have a new family.

Lopez explained to the court that U.S. Supreme Court decisions issued since Young was incarcerated for the three deaths, have made it illegal to give a person under 18 a life sentence without parole.
Those decisions indicate that the original sentencing of Young on the three counts of first degree murder is retroactive, meaning Young would have to serve at least 35 years of a life sentence, said Lopez.

The Supreme Court ruled that mandatory life sentences for juveniles violated the 8th Amendment, so he was entitled to a sentencing hearing. Given the budget issues with state and local governments in Louisiana, it appears as though the DA's office chose not to fight his release and instead let him plea to a lesser offense for which he will be paroled. This guy certainly is not the person I'd use as the poster child of parole. He killed his entire family.

three counts of first degree murder for killing his parents and younger brother and then burning their house
Those decisions indicate that the original sentencing of Young on the three counts of first degree murder is retroactive, meaning Young would have to serve at least 35 years of a life sentence, said Lopez.......ok, i get this. by my math, three life sentences @ 35 years still is 105 years. Serving only 40% of that sentence would keep in him prison until 2030.
I just don't understand the need to negotiate at this point. Note that laws have changed and give him the 105 year sentence instead of life without parole.
Glenn Marcantel, who represented the DA’s Office during the hearing, said he had no objections to the defense’s request to reduce Young’s sentence.
