Too hyper. Had labs, which I loved, but looking for something a little more low key.

If you have the space, get a Border Collie, Australian Shepherd, Catahoula, or a German Shorthair Pointer.

One day, I will mix these breeds together and create the perfect work/hunting dog.

Pick the beagle if you enjoy nonstop howling.

Best pet ever, I had one from the time he was 4 weeks old until he was 12 yrs. Yes they do snore and fart but they have the best personality. Need to keep their face clean in the wrinkles and experiment with different foods for the allergies. I am currently looking for another one as well. They also LOVE to play tug of war with a rope or a toy that has handles on it.

Great dogs for others but cannot handle the musk that every one I have ever been around puts out. That coupled with the respiratory and health problems make owning one a labor of love.

If you do decide to buy one, be careful. A friend of ours ordered two from a site in TN and it was a scam.....she's out 3k.

I'd personally never throw that much $ out without seeing the animal.

Then you run down a list if health problems that are simply unnecessary. Most dogs have "great personalities" if you aren't a shithead.

Check out the Bull Terrier.

They aren't aggressive, they are very loyal, and they have a very high threshold for pain which makes them great for younger kids.

Not ours. In fact he's very laid back. I realize that may be the exception but they do exist.

I would suggest a shite-eater. They give those away all the time. Check bulletin boards at vets'. Check paper. They have a lot of hybrid vigor and don't need pampering, they bark when strangers arrive, they don't eat a lot, and they are so excited to see you when you get back.

A friend has one and she has all sorts of weird stuff she has to do for him, health wise. Something about soaking his feet...

She did say they vet will jack him off for a small fee and she can sell the sperm. I think she's had his meat beat a few times.

Great dogs, grew up with them my whole life and on my second as an adult. No health problems. Have to be inside dogs in the south due to the heat. Can be gassy so finding the right dog food is key

My boss just got one. He said they have to be inside most of the time due to the climate. When walking them, they cant go far because they lack stamina. Also, in some areas, this breed is targeted by thieves because of their trusting nature and high price.
He is having a tracking chip put in as soon as he is old enough. good luck.

Don't get a bulldog! High maintenance which means expensive and pita! They stink, horrible skin, eye problems, GI problems, ear problems. My parents have one and wear advised by a good friend of mine ( who has been around a lot of em) not to do it. They shoulda listened.

Was an owner for 10 years. Wonderful member of the family. Had a few problems but overall I got off on the cheap with his health. He was the king of the neighborhood when out and about. My main complaint is that they shed badly. Even with regular grooming and brushing it is everywhere. That aside he was well worth it.

Science diet for food. Clean folds daily. Bath weekly. Easy after that.

They eat anything. Once ate 4 golf balls and a golf glove, 25 glass christmas ornaments, chew toy that came out 2 years later petrified and crawfish heads and shite them out as bisque. Just pure awesome.
