Do you fattys rent these CPAPs or do you buy it ?

Does insurance cover this ?

I need one - My Dr wanted me to do a sleep study but I didn't follow through. I'm sleepy all day at work, and it sucks.

If I were you, I'd buy my CPAP on amazon. You'll get a better quality machine that has an auto function that will auto adjust according to your actual sleep patterns at that time. It removes the requirement of a sleep study to tell you what your pressure needs to be.

Definitely get an auto CPAP. I got one through insurance and later found out it's referred to as a "brick" model bc it doesn't adjust pressure or record info. I ended up buying a different one.

There is a program called Sleepy Head that you can upload all your data into and see your sleep patterns. You must have a model that can record the data on a memory card though.

I recommend reading some of the info at Apnea Board forum. I wish I had found that before I got my equipment. That is also where you will find the Sleepy Head program.

There is also a website where you can buy used machines. They check them, clean them, and only sell low hour machines. It can save you a ton of money if insurance isn't paying for it. Second Wind CPAP

I'm doing the sleep study in a few days just for shits and giggles to see why I randomly will wake up after 4 or 5 hours. Used to be able to go 7 or 8 hours nonstop, but now I just wake up after 4 and am tired the rest of the day.

My insurance covered almost everything I had to pay a
Small monthly amount for the machine

I now own it

The sleep study is an unique experience. I took some ambien to help me fall asleep. I would not have been able to without help.

My insurance covered it but I later found out they gave me crap equipment. I ended up buying a better model. I also buy my own replacement stuff now (masks and filters). I was paying around $90 through insurance to replace that stuff and found a place to buy better equipment for about half that price.

If you do go through insurance then read up on this stuff beforehand. I would recommend asking for an auto machine (one that will automatically adjust pressure between 2 set points) rather than a constant pressure. Also tell them you want a machine that records data. My first one only recorded compliance (just a way for them to prove I was actually using it). The one I bought records all sorts of data that you can read in a program like Sleepy Head that will tell you all of your sleep related data.

Been using one for 15+ years.

It is life changing.

Insurance covers the vast majority of cost.

Wife noticed that I would stop breathing and then jerk myself out of sleep gasping.

How has it helped you sleep? Most definitely and i don't even notice the mask and barely move during the night

Do you feel better the next day after using it? It was drastic the first night i used one. I woke up ready to go and even after several months i wake up with much more energy in the morning.

What led you to getting one? My wife and kids were complaining about my snoring. I have always snored even when i wasn't overweight and was born with a deviated nasal septum. I went into my ENT and explained my issues, he ordered the sleep study then after a few weeks i was approved for a cpap. During the sleep study it was determined I was having 80+ events per hour where i would stop breathing. 40 is the normal point for requiring a cpap. I know it has been said before but if you need one it is truly life changing.

This is what I purchased and I am infinitely happy with it.

LINK

It's got every feature that you would want and you won't find anything cheaper anywhere. There is an app that I look at on my phone each morning and it will tell me how well I slept. The CPAP communicates via bluetooth with the app. Also there is an SD card in the machine that will allow you to analyze your own sleep patterns.

If you guy through your insurance you will end up with a bottom of the line CPAP and it'll cost you much more than the one in the link does, even if your insurance is good.

The first one I had I ended up paying $800 as my portion of the cost and the doctor hit my insurance company for 2200. The retail on my machine was 800 and it was a bottom of the line machine.

Same story here. I went in not knowing any different and I ended up with a brick.

I have a PR System One 460 now.

Did the air on subs bother you?

That is why I use Provent. Requires a prescription, paid 360.00 for 180 day supply. It regulates the flow of air which keeps one's throat open while asleep

Im very interested in this product. How much has it helped you? Have you used a cpap machine before this and can you compare? Has you quality of sleep improved a lot and has your energy levels during the day improved a lot due to better sleep?

That is the same machine i use. Also they did not set my machine high enough after the sleep study as i was still snoring. I did a little digging online and it is very simple to get into the provider setting and adjust the pressure. I bumped it up one setting and have been good to go since.

My wife told me that I was stopping breathing at night and had the test done.

I love the machine. And highly recommend it.

I'm fit and workout daily but still have sleep apnea. I did not like thought of cpap so i had super expensive dental mouthguard made that was suppose to do the trick. Couldn't handle sleeping with it. Tried. Then i got cpap and was same issue. Tried to use for 2 months, with diff mask. Finally took it back. I just can't sleep at all with all of that on or around my face. Got bed that the head raises. Raise my side only about 25 degrees and wife says i don't snore anymore. I'm sure study will still show sleep apnea but i feel fine.

Ive had mine for 3 days now and im still waking up at night. Its preset to 8. He said thats where I need to be, I guess its 1-20. Anyways I did the 2 sleep studies and I have mild sleep apnea but overall I do not sleep well, usually 5-6 hours a night and I thought this would help but Ive had it 3 nights and still am not sleeping well. Should I call my doctor or the sleep center? Is this normal as my body adjusts to it? My mask is the one that goes just in the nose, im thinking maybe i need the full face mask? I dont know but I hate calling my doctor his nurse really makes me feel like im bothering her when I talk to her.

also while on the subject is it 100% necessary to use distilled water? Ive just been using water from my filter the last 3 nights.

Had the same issue. Couldn't get comfortable with the mask and when I didn't just give up and pull it off I would wake up with it not in the correct position (pillow mask). So I just quit using it for over a year.

After my Dr. told me for my long term health I needed to use the thing I did some research and found the Philips Respironics Dream Wear pillow mask. It's been great. I can't wait to put it on at night.

That being said, I was waking up with dry mouth. So Dr. told me to find a chin strap to keep my mouth closed or find a full-face mask that covers nose and mouth. Found one online that was highly rated, tried it, and can't get used to it.

I just use the Dream Wear pillow mask, figure it's better than nothing.
