Any car salesman?
I just recently bought a new vehicle. I love hearing the typical car salesman bullcrap. What can I do to earn your business?, You got the deal of a lifetime., let me go talk to my manager, but my favorite: We lost money on this car. I've had several people swear up and down to me that they really can lose money on some purchases. I don't believe it.Confirm to me this is false please.

yeah they may lose a couple hundred dollars but it gets them to the point that they get volume bonuses and stuff. then they also may screw you on trades and other stuff like interest rate, and the other warranty shite they sell you.

What I figured is the finance manager gets a cut of the warranty. Those guys are more pushy than the salesmen.

See Gil Gunderson next time. Ol' Gil is so desperate he will practically give the car away.

They can lose money on a deal, but they will make it up on financing.

I’m pretty sure the car salesmen on here claim to make 200k, Drive Mercedes, and have some money left over to get their wife a boob job.

Finance guys usually get some of the finance rate as well. Not a bad gig at all.

According to the National Automative Dealers Association, new car dealerships lose an average of $217/car after expenses.

To be clear, they're unlikely to lose money on the invoice price after holdbacks, but it is entirely plausible - likely, even - that they'll lose money after expenses.

Used cars, service, parts, financing, etc. are where they become profitable.

re: Any car salesman?
I can confirm, with 100% certainty, they can lose money.

If they over order, floor plan can start to eat the dealership alive.

When I bought my last bike, I found a dealer with over 30 identical units in stock. I offered the sales manager 15k, 10k off of sticker. He laughed it off. I left him a card with my offer.

Four months later he called to accept. I declined, he took another 2000 off.

Looking at rebates and manufacturer to dealer rebates he ate 4500 bucks. Looking at pricing on the units and knowing average flooring, at a year in, he should have done it when I offered initially.

Costs are not so clear as what they initially paid for it.

Looked down on, but they can easily clear 100k only dealing with already sold customers.

Warranty is give and take. Not worth it if you buy it for what they want to sell it for. Completely worth it if you jew them down to cost plus 10%.

My bike warranty has paid for 1000s in repairs...only a little bit which was a defect. The rest was me driving with my cack and balls.

To the fellow above me, the finance department makes more profit in a single month than all other departments combined and multiplied by two.

I've look at Carvana, still trying to figure out how it works. I'm not a trusting guy in general and don't know if I trust buying a car that I haven't test driven.

You know you hit their rock bottom price when all they have left to offer you to close the deal is an eight-ball.

. No joke. Never again.

Just left a service department. My daughter is in town from college and a small plastic piece broke that goes on the shifter that allows you to put it in gear. Had the same thing happen a few years back on my car. Took mine to AAMCO and cost about $70. Buick dealer charged me $350 . I had also asked that they replace a faulty tire pressure sensor. They wanted an additional $175 for that but I decided to go to Walmart instead where I am now waiting for my sensor to be installed for $29 parts and labor.
