Name one positive a car salesman brings to the table.

A good salesman can tell you everything you need to know about a vehicle and more.

Not to defend car salesmen, but a lot of blame needs to placed on manufactures as well. They are charging dealers more for cars to pay for all their bloated overhead.

Of course we are to blame as well. We want everything cheap, but that means less people getting paid and more unemployed people living off the government here.

Americans and our bitching for everything cheap has created a slave population in Asia.

Whatever though, at least you saved a couple of bucks.

The service departments are always the most profitable

The service department is the theft department. 65/hr and 3 hours to change spark plugs? Thats not service, thats theft.

Take it from me, buy from a private owner who wants to sell instead of trade. they get more money and you get a paid for car.

If you can change my spark plugs in three hours, I'll shake your hand.

I can pull and swap the motor in 19

It isn't 1988...there isn't anything they are going to tell me that I can't find out for myself before I ever set foot in the place.

Last 2 vehicles I bought, I knew more about the factory options than the salesman did. The only thing they might get me on is port installed options

For real. By the time I decide what I want to buy, I'm usually teaching the salesman about the vehicle.

The average gross profit on a car at our dealership is around $2400 a car.

And that $2400 is calculated based on ALL figures? Pack, holdback, manufacturer bonuses, financing bonuses, etc?

I've got $100 that says that it doesnt.

Salesman are generally dirty mother frickers, but it isn't all their fault. Most of them are pretty dumb, and the managers put them together. The manipulation starts on day 1, and even a decent person will break to the business with time. They either play the game or they won't make any money.

So, Rando the a-hole gets a decent deal, while sweet arse grandma gets got every way possible to make up for Rando's deal. She pays $3,000 more for the car, 600% markup on the warranty (not really a warranty bc the dealer can make more on a 3rd party like LDS...a car guy understands the part within the parentheses), a $500 markup on gap, the full $200 doc fee, and they get her for the max reserve at a finance company chosen based on what's best for the dealer instead of sweet granny.

My time is money, so wasting time with dealers is losing money for me.

I never buy MSRP, but I do not try to become an OT legend of car buying either.

No matter what deal you got, someone got one better. Just be happy with your purchase and move on in life.

Exactly how I feel. I will set a price through email and expect to sign at the appointment time.

I don't have time to spend a day haggling over a few hundred dollars.

I never get anything in the finance department and I only use the service department when it is covered.
