Manual states

quote:

Never add fuel while unit is running or hot. Allow generator and engine to cool entirely before adding fuel.

Only when the can is about half or less and easier to control. Still risky unless I have my nomex on.

Yes. I also leave my car running and rev my engine while gas is being pumped into my vehicle, and use the gas fumes to light my cigarettes

Why would you even ask this question?

Everyone knows its completely safe to keep your generator inside and fill it up while it is running..

you dont lose anything by turning it off, I dont see why you would even risk it.

I've done it to the my little Honda like 10 times. The tank is only .95 gal so every 6 hours or so I top that shite off.

But it's enclosed in plastic all around that part and not very hot at all.

BTW, in Austin at the LSU game in 2019, the paid tailgating(they set up everything for you) area has a crew that does this ALL DAY to about 50 tailgates. They provide the same little Honda Generator I'm using.
And they walk around topping off gas about 3 times during the course of a tailgate ~8-10 hrs, not once shutting off a generator.
I'm not saying it's the best practice but for these models, it's not exactly the same risk as a big arse exposed Generac or something similar.

I do this all the time. The risk is minimal for a competent person. Those warnings are for the mechanically disinclined.

The manual also says to wait for it to cool, so just turning it off and instantly adding gas has the same risk as adding while running.
If gas hits that hot arse muffler or motor, it’s going to ignite.
I fuel mine while it is running.

There's more risk in shutting it down, fueling, and then re-cranking right after. The only way you eliminate the risk is shut the unit down, wait a half hour or so to fill it, then wait another 10-15 minutes before cranking it.

When its 100 degrees outside there's really no safe way to transfer gasoline. I fuel mine up running. Use a funnel.
