Good cardio?
Do you even lift and BJJ?
Also, didn't play as a kid?
Edt: it is super easy to pick up. I'm a goofy person, not athletic at all and nearly dominated when I played. Learn to put some spin on your serve.

I belong to a men's group that plays once a week. We love it. Not too competitive, but enough so that we are out there trying. Mostly over 60 folks.
Lots of fun, and camaraderie.
Sometimes we grab a couple of beers later at the local watering hole.
Fun times.

I’ve been playing almost 3 years now.
I played racquetball back in the day and some ping pong.
I find it easy to learn but hard to master.
You can make it as easy or hard as you want depending on your competitive drive and ability.
If you are just wanting a social activity and a reason to move a little, it can be that for you.
If you want to get really good, push yourself, and stretch your competitive legs you can do that too.
I’m the second guy and play 4-6 times a week. For 2-3 hours per.
I started wearing a Garmin watch to track my workouts and I’m burning 1000 calories per day on average.
I really don’t understand the hate for PB. Sure, old people play it. But that doesn’t mean all ages can’t have fun playing. Yes, it’s not tennis, and tennis is more strenuous. So? Why can’t the haters just appreciate that old guys still have a sport that they can be competitive in?
And I’ve seen families where three generations are all on the same court having a blast and actually playing well. What other sport can say that?
The funny thing to me is, a lot of guys hating on PB are fat sedentary fricks who haven’t played a sport since high school, can barely walk, and think fantasy football and video poker are more respectable hobbies than PB.

Isn’t pickleball just tennis for the old and unathletic?
I’d rather play ping pong.
No, it's really fun and fast paced. If you have hand eye coordination you can hang with most novice/weekend warriors. When you play someone that is very athletic, with hand eye coordination, things change really quick. Same with ex tennis players, they can put spins on the ball you won't see from a novice.
Ping pong is faster paced, if you're good, but you don't get the workout you get from pickleball and is not nearly as fun IMO.

Just get in the kitchen and dominate!

It doesn’t take long. I played some a few years ago because so many of my tennis friends started playing. One thing I noticed is it improved my net play in tennis.

I play at the YMCA on Saturday mornings every now and then. Equal old people and younger people. Old people are surprisingly good there. If your semi athletic you can be good pretty fast

Don’t feed the ignorant trolls. If you have a background in racket sports, you will pick it up quickly. It is fast moving, so anticipation is a big part of it.
Even casual games can be enjoyed.
Our town opened 9 courts a year or so ago, and it is popular with all age groups and skill levels.
Once you start playing, you will likely find someone who has a WhatsApp group, that may invite you to join. People will post messages like, anybody playing 8:00 Saturday, so you can plan for games.

I live in Houston and play on the north side.
But when I’m in BR I play at Stacks.
I’ll be there next Saturday

About the same amount of time it takes to get good at ping pong.

I started playing 4-6 hours a week back in August as an alternative to running. Now I'm up to 8-12 hours per week and even joined an ALTA league this fall at the C3 level. I'm a 3.124 DUPR after only 6 weeks of league play.
Never played a racket sprot in my life. Ran cross country and played baseball & lacrosse in H.S.
It took about 6-8 months to get to the level where people where asking me to play with them. I'm not very competitive in rec play so I don't take it too seriously, but a switch flips when I play league. Like most sports, the more you play, the better you will become.
I mainly play to sweat and because it's 100x more fun than running.

Drill more than you play and you’ll improve quickly

My tennis background was singles, playing from the baseline. Pickleball is all about getting to the net, but I still like hitting the groundstrokes.
