A buddy had a Geo Metro and went to Auto Zone to get spark plugs for it. When he told the guy at the counter he needed three the clerk laughed his arse off at him.

When my wife was in a wreck the insurance company gave her a Mitsubishi Mirage rental car. Honestly reminded me a lot of the econoboxes we used to drive in the 80s and 90s. 1.2l 3 cyl. Not very fast but fast enough. Faster than my 80 series land cruiser. Got 40mpg in the city. Could park it damn near anywhere downtown. I knew nothing about it so I did some research. Apparently they are very reliable and dead simple. Easy to work on. Really made for those developing countries more than the US. I actually really enjoyed it and sorta want one to drive around town. At 11mpg on the 80 series and 14 for the Sequoia wouldn't take much driving to make up the cost.

my buddy drove a geo metro 3 cylinder car to work for 20+ years 350,000+ miles.
I don't remember that car ever being in the shop.

I bought a 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage new in 2023 and it had a 1.2 liter 3 cylinder engine. At the time it was the cheapest vehicle sold in the US. My daughter is driving it now. It gets right at 45 MPG. If you are like 95% of drivers in the US and have to get ahead of the car in front of you no matter what and have to beat everyone off the line at every red light and stop sign you will be disappointed. If, on the other hand, you drive like an adult, like the remaining 5% of Americans drive, it is more than enough vehicle to commute in. If you are in the first 95% of drivers mentioned nothing you buy is going to last as long as it would for the latter 5% of drivers.
If one bitches about gas prices and then drives like the 95% mentioned above they have no reason to complain about gas mileage. I drive a 2024 corolla that is rated at 32 and 41 MPG for a combined 35 MPG. I have never gotten less than 45 and usually get better than 47 MPG, using actual miles traveled and qty to refill. I drive somewhere between 5-10 MPH over the speed limit and almost never go over 2000 RPM when accelerating. I also lift my foot off the accelerator way before I need to brake and for some damn reason my brakes last longer that most people's.....140K miles on my GMC 3500HD and it has had a heavy trailer behind it for about 70% of those miles.

We have a 2024 Mirage. Been a GREAT car. Paid a little over $12k for it new. I can get around 45 MPG in it. Perfect commuter. Alas I think the 24 year model was the last. The only difference that I can tell between it and my 24 Corolla is the Mirage is noisier on the road and the finishes aren't quite as good. Also the Mirage has a timing CHAIN and not a plastic belt like the Toyota. I bought the Mirage after doing some research and searching for Mirages for sell and sorting by highest mileage. LOTS of them pushing 300k for sell. For $12K that is about as good a car as you can buy. They ain't speed demons but I gave that shite up when I turned about 21 years old anyhow....

I have a buddy who has an Equinox, 2021 I think, and its a pretty damn nice SUV. It also pushes around 30 MPG according to him.

My 3.4 and 5.2 means i only have a 4.3 average. But I have an average HP over 600 so i'll console myself with that.

So not a lot of horses pulling any kind of wagon at 75 MPH. If passing everything in site is the goal than no, probably not the answer. If however getting from point a to b like an adult and not spending a fortune to do so is the goal they are perfectly capable of doing that. I see those among us who can't tolerate the idea of someone being in front of them....I feel truly sorry for them. Life is too damn short to be in that kind of hurry every time you get behind the wheel. They also suffer horribly from time management skills and it is almost a certainty that manifests itself into every aspect of their lives.

I mean I'm laughing right along with him, but I wasn't smiling when I had to buy ten for the Excursion.
