They are problems everywhere.

Remember when the Clinton’s raised all that money for Haiti?

Hispaniola is a wild place. Dominican isn't the greatest place in the world, but all in all, it's a wonderful tourist destination. They have some great resorts, etc. On the other hand, I don't know of a single person who has ever went on vacation in Haiti.

Anecdotally, anyone I know from DR is proud of the island they're from and frequently visit home. They take pride in it. My friends from Haiti are mostly proud to not live there anymore, and have no intention of going home, not even to visit family.

Could the Cajun navy and invade, occupy, and create a new island nation? Or would you need a larger force? Just brainstorming where we could start over when this place goes completely off the rails.

The answer is “You could but why would you want to?”

I’d rather they invade NOLA East and take over.

I would rank the DR way above Jamaica, I consider Jamaica to be runner up in the anus of the Caribbean contest, but a distant second to Haiti

I have a couple friends who are originally from Jamaica. Their explanation of the Caribbean hierarchy is this. Jamaica is seen as the bottom of the barrel in the Caribbean and Haiti is the sticky shite stuck to the bottom.

I've been to both. Get outside of the resort and it's hard to tell the two apart. Jamaica may be marginally better because their nice areas are bigger and nicer.

Both are heartbreaking.

That isn’t anything new. Learned that years ago on a trip to the Dominican

There’s a good book, long read, about the history of the Caribbean, basically the best of the slaves/immigrants began to get off the boats on the windward islands and the quality began to trickle down as they continued nw, Haiti and Jamaica definitely got the dregs, with the exception of the US, of course

Screw those Haitians for crossing over to the other side of a small island.

Well, they've pretty much ruined their side of that island. Maybe the Dominicans don't want them ruining their side.

Haiti doesn't even have trees on their side anymore.

This was exactly part of the explanation they gave as well. That the unruly and problematic ones were left to Jamaica and Haiti as the more desirables had long been off-boarded.
