tourist areas of Mexico these days. You aren’t even safe in the resorts in Mexico.

Isla Mujeres and Isla Holbox are much, much safer than the areas that are bad in Jamaica and Jamaica has a LOT of bad areas.

yep, you're good in most of the Mexican tourist areas, just spent a week in Cabo and walked/Ubered all over that place, probably safer than Highland Road outside of the north gate

My dad went to Haiti back in the early 2000's, by this time he had already served in the Gulf War. He went on to serve in Afghanistan and the 2nd Iraq war. He was involved in operations in Africa, all across the Middle East, Asia and even Soviet block nations. He said Haiti was by far the worst country he has ever set foot in and he was pretty adamant about that.

Trujillo showed the DR how to handle this a long time ago.

this is how bad it is down there, we haul a lot of people in and out of there but never overnight there, they had an earthquake down there years ago while we had a plane on the ground, they were going to refuse to issue taxi clearances to perform a runway inspection, our guys, and others, said frick that we're going, and we're going now, and it's the only place in this hemisphere where they were going to allow departures from on 9/11

Easily. I remember watching the episode of "No Reservations" when Anthony Bourdain went there, and it was complete chaos. He traveled to some real shitholes, but Haiti was probably the biggest shithole that he filmed on any of his shows.

DR has a GDP of $94.24 Billion compared to Haiti’s $20.94 Billion.
DR also hosts 8.5 million tourists a year compared to Haiti’s 322,000.

DR has working infrastructure and government while Haiti still exists in piles of rubble and is run by gang lords.

DR is definitely an upgrade for Haitians. Hell, it would be an upgrade for Americans living in Chicago.

I've spent a lot of time in the DR, don't know about living there full time, but I could easily do it, wouldn't be the worst place to have a vacation home either

No island is a great place to live full time simply due to the costs of materials (damn near everything is imported), but DR is reasonably fine for a third world country.

Main thing I am aware of to be nervous about is driving because they make BR drivers look sane and cautious.
