An AI company grossly exaggerating the capabilities of AI? I'm shocked.

Interesting.

The Wife (still no pics) took some pics of the unit so we could post it for rent.
She used ChatGPT to write the ad.
Chat: Your picture of the kitchen is too dark.
Wife: Really? Darn, I forgot to turn of the light and we're not nearby to take another pic.
Chat: Don't worry, I'll lighten it up for you.

WTF!!!!!!

Someone needs to show this to the students at LSU Law. That parking lot is always packed.

Most people in this thread don’t work in AI and are just parroting what they have seen on Twitter about the exponential growth and acceleration and doom and gloom scenarios where AI replaces 50% of jobs in 3-5 years. They’re taking what they read as gospel truth with no real understanding of what’s really going to happen and on what timeline.

Would you say they are stochastic parrots?

Prompt correctly and your wishes will be granted by the AI gods!

That next prompt will get you what you need, just like the next pull on the slots!

As a lawyer, I see huge potential for AI in the legal field, but right now, even the most sophisticated AI tools designed for attorneys are lacking.

Sounds like you don't know how to write a good prompt.

AI can definitely replace food and serving. They already have robot bartenders and chefs

Lawyers are completely safe. They will just make sure laws are passed that limit where AI can be used in their domain.

I don’t see AI taking those jobs. AI cannot frame an argument or appeal to emotion of a jury or judge. AI could do a lot of the paperwork and research that paralegals do though

Estimating a project takes multiple pages of images to understand the scope. So the plan view may show a grade beam. But you have to go to another page to view the detail which gives you the dimension of the grade beam plus the reinforcement for that particular grade beam. And a project may have 20 different grade beams each with its own particular dimensions and rebar schedule.

For example, you are give this in a set of plans

Lets say you wanted to see what was going on with this interior grade beam.

You'd have to go to Detail "D" on page S2.2, which gives you dimensions was well as a rebar schecule

The AI models we're being presented just don't have the capacity to handle that yet.

But, as has been pointed out by multiple people here, it may get there one day. Its just not there yet.

I'm thinking that if you load each drawing into the Chat program- details and corresponding sheets, everything- it may surprise you.
Or it may ask you to upgrade if you want to run that stuff!

If you have all of the measurements on the drawings, I don't see why it can't give you take offs.

Some of you are adorable with this. There won't be fewer lawyers; if anything, there will simply be less support staff for you to bitch at when you're feeling impotent.

No, LLMs don't actually understand language, so they will frequently fundamentally misunderstand and misstate the holdings of authorities it cites to. I've had LLMs confidently tell me that a case stands for something, when the reality is that it stands for the exact opposite when I read the case. That has nothing to do with the prompt and everything to do with the fact that LLMs are fancy auto-complete generators that don't actually understand human language.

Louisiana will still be drowning in billboards for injury attorneys. Gordon and Morris Bart will just become A.I. generated generated marketing characters.
