I understand the point but how do you hold them responsible or liable? Unless they knew it was going to happen and didn't stop it. Did any of our parents know what was going on in our day to day lives? I think not.

Major sporting events are no longer soft targets. It’s impossible to secure every gathering place in America though. Security at schools should be increased....if we’re gonna protect anyone it should be the kids.

Many of these parents understand their kids are a bit off, or acting differently. Simply locking away your firearm from your child should be common sense. Particularly for children who may have a history of mental illness, or even a family history.
I'm not a lawmaker nor an attorney, so I can't speak to how exactly you hold them liable. Liability can mean many different things. Legally, financially, idk. Negligence certainly comes to mind.

Its a catch 22. I feel like kids are becoming copy cats. School shootings are at the top of every media outlet right now. Its everywhere.

I remember being 18 years old, the emotional volatility and maturity at that age just aren't there to have unfiltered access to firearms. Hell, we don't even trust them with alcohol yet

Just think some system for firearm purchasing for people say 18-21 that requires say a safety class, basic psych eval and short waiting period would be helpful

I guess it's different for everyone. I grew up with guns, was taught to respect them and what they could do. I haven't shot any place up.
I agree with your point though. It's getting old hearing from others about banning guns, that will not solve the problem and will create others.

The armed resource officer shot and killed the shooter, saving many lives. Has this been discussed yet?

a little bit, depends on what the situation actually was. Did the gunman only target those two who were shot? Bottom line, the SRO ended the threat, permanently.

Maybe the police presence. But it seems motive is the main reason that the targets tend to be schools. It seems to be current or former bullied/troubled students taking their anger out on the place that caused their problems.

You can’t stop evil from happening. Blame it on whatever you want. Mental illness. Bullying. Whatever. It doesn’t matter. It’s gonna happen. You can increase security and that’s about it. But what happens when schools become locked down? Shooters target malls? Parking lots? It will never stop.

Obviously not everyone has that, but my point was to change the process of unsupervised firearm purchases by youth. Almost similar to getting a driver's license etc
An 18-21YO who is on their first unsupervised firearm purchase should go through
-Basic saefty/instructions course
-Basic psych eval
-Short, reasonable waiting period
The youth still have access and parents/gaurdians still reserve the right to accelerate this process
