You gotta wonder who is pushing for the systematic dumbing down of education so that black people can stay afloat? Is it some woke white woman? Or black people?

And honestly, how much of the problem stems from the child never paying attention or being held accountable for their own effort since the 1st grade? You can't expect some high schooler to do advanced/remedial math when they just only have the most basic math understanding?

Stories like remind me of why I stopped associating myself as a Democrat or repping Black Lives Matter years ago. It's way too tiresome trying to defend someone else's stupidity.

Like seriously, who comes up with stuff like this. It's pure and utter ridiculous. For reference, I thought maybe the author was exaggerating and was being facetious. One of the links in the article links to an 82 page workbook of "dismantling racism in Mathematics".

quote:

one example of “white supremacy” in math is teachers asking students to “show their work”

I admit, I used to hate having to show my work. Many times in school I'd figure out the answer, but because I didnt show everything the way the teacher specified, I lost points. It sucked, but whatever. How and in what world is that racist. I wasn't the only person who was being held to that standard. My white and black classmates were all forced to do the same thing. There is no racism in that.

I may never be a conservative by the Poli-boards standards. But I sure as hell cannot align myself with anyone who thinks 2+2=4 being racist. Or with anyone who thinks that black people are inherently dumber than white folks.

How can someone pass a math test without being able to do the work?

Did they ever explain why Math is racist?

Anything that doesn't result in equal outcomes from blacks and browns is inherently racist.

If you say they just aren't as smart, that's because of racism too.

It's a convenient narrative because everyone is too afraid to challenge anything with the R word attached to it and it's completely unprovable.

Excuse after excuse for why certain members of society can't get ahead. The problem is right there in the reflection of the mirror they look into. Damn, some people are insanely weak.

W. T. F.

so asking "how" and "why" to confirm correct understanding is racist?!?!? how the frick are these people supposed to function in the real world?!?!

or is that the goal? Change the "real world" to accomodate lower standards - like painting a bullseye around the bullet hole.

Apparently, one example of “white supremacy” in math is teachers asking students to “show their work” when solving math problems. According to class materials, this requirement reinforces “worship of the written word as well as paternalism.”

Students are encouraged to make TikTok videos rather than bow to the “paternalism” of writing things down.

I mean the written word has only marked the onward march of human civilization for all of human history. Who really needs that?

Just pushing poc away from engineering.

An important part of engineering is is providing work where another engineer can see your work and follow it. If you can't show how you got to your solution you won't be working very long.

I don't think it's "white supremacy" but the concept of not getting full credit unless you show your work needs to die right now.

I used to get in so much trouble, having arguments with my teachers about this. It's math. If I got it right, I should get full credit. If I got it wrong, then sure, I can understand showing your work.

I can tell you who is not... successful black people.

They hate this shite as much as everyone else.

Some of the most successful black businessmen and businesswomen I know, refuse to hire grads from Southern/SUNO/Grambling... but look to actively hire black grads from LSU/UNO/SLU etc

I was so bad at showing my work that my 4th grade teacher said the class would have a pizza party if I actually did it. I had no idea how oppressed I was
