Apparently, one example of “white supremacy” in math is teachers asking students to “show their work” when solving math problems. According to class materials, this requirement reinforces “worship of the written word as well as paternalism.”

Students are encouraged to make TikTok videos rather than bow to the “paternalism” of writing things down.

Just blow the whole damn thing up and let's start over. frick it.

I'm certain they are all-too-willing to be operated on by surgeons who can't do math, drive across bridges engineered by engineers who cannot do math, and fly on planes engineered by people who cannot do math.

Put your money where your mouth is.

Paternalism

quote:

Paternalism, attitude and practice that are commonly, though not exclusively, understood as an infringement on the personal freedom and autonomy of a person (or class of persons) with a beneficent or protective intent.

. . . .
quote:

The term paternalism first appeared in the late 19th century as an implied critique predicated on the inherent value of personal liberty and autonomy, positions elegantly outlined by Immanuel Kant in 1785 and John Stuart Mill in 1859. The etymology of paternalism, rooted in the Latin pater (“father”), reflects the implicit social hierarchies of patriarchal cultures, in which fathers or male heads of families were understood to be authority figures responsible for the welfare of subordinates and dependents.

Is it ironic or coincidental that the Oregon DOE is telling teachers to avoid paternalism under the notion of paternalism?

at this point, this has nothing to do with racism and more to do with dumbing down the populace.

One good thing coming out of this. I showed this to my teenager and they agreed it is dumb. Passing the conservative values along.

That doesn’t make any sense - as a kid, I went to school in Brownsville, TX for a few years and my parents were teachers there

The only subject the kids passed was Math.

All this crap about education being racist..... education is the one bedrock item that is needed to elevate yourself in life.

Especially elementary and secondary education.

For a white progressive, they have a duty to explain to minorities how they're being oppressed. The minorities just don't have the capacity to understand their lack of privilege.

One could say it's a.....white man's burden.

one of my sons is very good in math.

except he can’t show his work.
as in he really isn’t capable and doesn’t know how.

he can multiply and divide compound fractions in his head. Gets them right at about an 85-90% clip.

just don’t ask him how.
he has no clue how to tell you why the answer is what it is. He just knows it.

I would say 100% is very good at math. Any problem can be solved if you understand the math. Otherwise, you're just guessing and memorizing answers.

Good, easier to control and convince to think/do as we tell them but make them think it was their idea.

When you understand what critical race theory really teaches and what it's adherents believe, everything they do makes sense.

They genuinely believe that every single person is 100% exactly the same. It's the nature versus nurture debate and they've gone all in on nurture. To the point that they believe the ONLY reason anyone can ever do worse than anyone else is because of an artificial construct or system holding them down. The idea that some kids are worse than others at math is simply not true. It can't be.

The problem is that try as they might, they keep running into the reality that certain kids keep doing badly. Seemingly no matter what. This is where a normal person would consider that maybe they were wrong. When you've bought into this stuff though you can't and so what they do instead is double down and destroy everything. Can't get everyone to score equally on the SAT? Don't consider it. Can't get everyone on the same reading level? Can't get more into college no matter what you do? Enact quotas. Can't get math scores even? Make math racist.

All of this is to deny the reality staring you in the face. But it makes perfect sense when you realize they genuinely, sincerely, 100% believe that any difference in results is due to racism.

I mean, in a nutshell, the only way to solve "racism" is to speak in Universal Truths. Math can be "expressed" in different terms, but ultimately, everything we do has to be mathematically precise. We produce parts within tolerance, weigh loads to be shipped to other parts of the world, compose metal alloys based on customer needs, etc....there just is no faking the funk with math.

Someone out there needs to put on their big boy boots and explain that we, as a society, do not function without recognizing the preeminence of hard science. Math, chemistry, engineering physics, etc...

Why, even Wakanda became the hidden gem of the world because of the preeminence of its specially sourced element, Vibranium!
