AS a kid, I remember going to the Fair, but had no idea where it was..
If you look at this 2006 photo of the riverwalk parking lot, you can see the outline of the Worlds Fair buildings.

I went to the World's Fair in '84, but I was only five and remember only a few things:
The shuttle Enterprise was on display;
We got stuck in that gondola over the river for about half an hour;
The had one of those guys who made balloon animals there that made me a balloon sword;
The pelican mascot;
and someplace that sold chocolate-covered bananas that my father said looked like "shite on a stick."

This is a picture during the cuban missile crisis. I've always been amazed with aircraft carriers, but this picture really shows the capability they have.

I basically lived in the Wyndham across the street for 10 months and never knew that's where the World's Fair had been located.

I had lunch at the Grand Central food court the other day. That building is fantastic.
I watched a piece on the original Penn Station the other day. That was one fantastic building that was torn down. Such a tragedy. Madison Square Gardens was built on the location. The good news is that Penn Station is going to be rebuilt with many of the pieces from the original building. It is set to open in 2020.

That's cool.
I've always wanted to see Grand Central Station, everyone says it's a sight to behold.

My mother's father, Morfar in Danish, studied under Knudsen and always talked of him like he was a God. I was always afraid of Morfar, but he is the reason that I went into EECS at Berkeley.
Despite Mme Curie, this was a man's world, and my mother and her sister were never welcome despite being brilliant students. They both left Copenhagen for the US in the late 40's. Aunt Annette was a college prof. My mother went to the University of Chicago where she met my dad when he was in grad school. She was a stay at home mom until she was about 50. She was hired at Stanford off of one interview. It wasn't from her resume. It was because she had a letter of recommendation that Niels Bohr had written for her in 1949.
