I'm glad to see most people are pissed off too. I was hoping I hadn't turned into a snowflake over night.

I'm pretty surprised how this thread has gone. Thought there would be more people defending the officer.

once this cop reasonably feared for his safety, it became a clear shoot.

There is no evidence of reasonable fear anywhere in that video other than fear on the part of the dead guy .

They didn't have that footage. So I guess the entire trial was just the arresting officer's testimonies?

No chance this video wasn't part of the trial. Both the prosecution and the defense could claim it would help their case. "At the heart of the prosecution's case was the shaky bodycam footage taken at a Mesa hotel on the night of Jan. 18, 2016. Shaver, a 26-year-old pest-control worker, was in Mesa on business and was with acquaintances at his room. "

How is it possible that that footage wasn't released until after the verdict?

It was released to the public after the verdict.

I had the same feelings when I watched the video.

So saying "well this guy was dead even if he hadn't moved " is false, because there is little to no chance the officer

You're speaking as if these police officers are reasonable, rational people when literally all evidence points in the complete opposite direction.

If you want my personal opinion, I think the cops likely were worried that there was another person still in the room possibly armed with the rifle that was reported. I think they didn't want to approach the guy to cuff him because that would have put them in the doorway to the hotel room

That's not a bad thought.

Until you watch the video. And you see them just run past his dead body with no further instructions to anyone in the room and then stand in front of the door in full view of the door and fail to open it 3 times without knocking or announcing themselves.

Never did and never will. Jury were as brainwashed as you by a system that explains how these cops aren't required to think rationally. That a simple sneeze could even be met with deadly force as long as the officer perceived it as a threat. You're as fricking dense as this murderous piece of shite cop.

His actions are indefensible. It's a bad shoot and he should have been convicted.

The problem is the video is released and other cops that watch it think that this is okay, lowering the bar further for what is considered justifiable. This seems like it would have been a good place to draw the line.

This "procedure" resulted in someone being killed, doesn't seem to work very well.

Unfortunately the only procedure that matters is the one that acquitted the officer. Lawsuits wont change a thing, especially when the officers themselves are almost never personally liable- it is always someone elses tax dollars that pay for guys like this. Its when officers who display piss poor judgement start actually getting punished, thats when things will change.

As it stands this officer will most likely get picked up by another agency, free to enact his "lawful" tactics. His career is far from over.

Well the procedures are wrong.
Shooting to kill rather than maim like the old ways is also wrong.

Admittedly, I didn't watch the video after the shots were fired.

It can both be true that these police at best followed poor procedures and that it was a justified shooting.

But it's not. He wasn't armed and was scared shitless. I don't care how he was trained. Police need to show judgement just like every other profession or face consequences.

It seems the guy on the ground had more of a reason to fear death than the officers in the room.

You should. It invalidates all of those arguments and further proves the complete incompetence of the officers.

The stand in front of the door in silence while one guy fails to correctly swipe the door key card. It would be almost comical if it wasn't so blatantly pathetic and following a heinous murder

Same...but that's just how bad it is. Not even the regulars can defend that shite.

Honestly, there are times when I'll see these types of videos and get angry, but this was the first time I was actually shaking knowing I was watching a straight up execution. That guy had NO CHANCE of coming out of that hall alive given the orders that were being barked at him. they may as well have said to recite the US Constitution backwards in Klingon, or they were going to shoot him.

frick...

Actually, the guy reaching behind his back after being warned NOT TO is what resulted in him getting killed.

My goodness dude. The cop even admitted it might be difficult to comply with his orders when he said fall on your face, not your hands. Then he let the guy fall on his hands.

He terrorized the guy until he made a mistake. If you can't see that, then you don't need to comment on what a reaosnable person would do, because you aren't one.

And you also made a comment that made it sound like you are a cop. That's a problem right there if y'all can watch this and not see an error in training or judgement.

Only a complete moron with no self worth and no ability to love their fellow man could support this officer. Thankfully even TigerDroppings is few on such types.
