so why exactly would something like this be covered up?

Odd how that article showed me none of the proof.
Yeah, in today's world "new evidence" means "bullshite".

That applies to a lot of conspiracy theories
Like that poster (I guess he’s dead?) who claimed the Coast Guard was covering up that a sea serpent lived in the San Francisco Bay.

There are folk legends of Egyptians in Australia, Scotland, and Ireland. Only now is archaeology catching up with legend, much in the same way as it did over a century ago when Heinrich Schleimann followed the Iliad and unearthed Troy.
When will the archaeological community finally accept that most ancient folk tales and legends are based on truth?
As for Egyptians in the new world, there are many folk tales from the 19th century of pioneers and explorers finding caches of relics, but no real evidence has survived. Much like reported skeletons of giants, all traces were confiscated by the Smithsonian institute never to be seen again or revealed to be hoaxes.

Naw. If it existed, it would have been found by Bobby and Cindy Brady that time they got lost in the Canyon.

King Tut (King Tut)
Now when he was a young man,
He never thought he'd see
People stand in line to see the boy king.
(King Tut) How'd you get so funky?
(Funky Tut) Did you do the monkey?
Born in Arizona,
Moved to Babylonia (King Tut).
(King Tut) Now, if I'd known
They'd line up just to see you,
I'd trade in all my money
And bought me a museum. (King Tut)
Buried with a donkey (Funky Tut)
He's my favorite honky!
Born in Arizona,
Moved to Babylonia (King Tut)
Dancin' by the Nile, (Disco Tut)
The ladies love his style, (Waltzing Tut)
Rockin' for a mile (Rockin' Tut)
He ate a crocodile.
He gave his life for tourism.
Golden idol!
He's an Egyptian…

maybe the Egyptian civilization lived all over the planet. Recently were discovered 5,000-year-old hieroglyphs in Australia.

You joke, but the Dine(Navajo)'s story of them emerging out of the ground sounds a lot like a stargate.
What if Egypt was going to shite and a gate user moved his loved ones from Egypt to the Four Corners area. Do i believe it, idk, but i believe it's an interesting hypothesis to ponder.

I think the more interesting ties to Egypt are in the great lakes region. Google the “Great Copper Heist”.
Some people came to the Americas during the Bronze Age and mined a metric shite ton of copper from the Great Lakes region. Zero evidence of bronze tools in the Americas, and there is zero accepted evidence of any pre-columbian civilization in the Americas having knowledge of metallurgy beyond Gold. The Egyptians were arguably the first to the Bronze Age, and they did have access to copper mines, but in no where near the quantities needed to supply Europe with all its bronze. Clearly, much of Europe’s bronze came from the Great Lakes, but who mined it, who transported it, and why is there no knowledge of this left?
What valuable natural resource exists near the Grand Canyon? Copper mines. I bet that anywhere in the world where you find ancient copper deposits, you’ll find a native legend about Egyptians or people resembling them.

If anyone remembers, there was an SG1 episode where a show called Wormhole Extreme is created as help to cover-up the Stargate program.
What if Stargate/SG1/SGA was a cover-up to achieve the same result?
