I always keep one hand on the horn. Trick I learned in Africa.

It is funny how in other parts of the world, the horn is used as a driving instrument as much as the blinker or headlights.

i always enjoy the ones that fly past me on the interstate doing 80-85 with their heads in the phone
And then they move over into the right lane in front of you and slow to 65 while you have your cruise set on 75. Then you have to change lanes and attempt to pass them, and they invariably speed up to match your speed just as you're passing them, making you either speed up more or slow down and move back to the right lane.

I seriously want to run these fricking people off the road.

How so?

I'm talking about waiting for the oncoming driver to essentially be next to me when I honk...and only do that when no one is behind me, because I don;t want them to go sliding in my lane and hit someone behind me.

But I think the point stands...fear is a hugely motivating feeling. the biggest problem most of these assholes have is that they are stright up under the impression they actually CAN drive and read their phone as it sits on their crotch at the same time. Hell...I'm sure there will be some here try and make that argument any time now.

If someone FINALLY feels like they were doings something dangerous and decides not to...even for a little while...then I'm fine with that tiny win.

I blow the horn as soon as the light turns green. I don't even give them a second. I figure they have no idea how long it's been green.

People have become programmed to look at their phone anytime there is a break, tv commercials, traffic lights, whatever. You're just doing them a favor by snapping them out of their trance. 2-3 seconds is an eternity when it comes to a traffic light. Honk immediately.

This is the ultimate in selfish expression in public. At least the guy who cruises in the left lane and holds everybody up is doing it intentionally. Jackasses with their eyes glued to the phone are wasting your time and endangering your life as a side effect of their bullshite.

Your time and your life are literally not worth as much as them gabbing with their pals.

I consider it a public service...maybe fear will be the only thing to get these idiots to fricking stop this shite.
I seriously doubt it.

I avoided a head-on collision last Friday on my way to work. Two lane highway, has a slight curve to the left and then immediately back to the right. As I'm coming out out the left curve into the right curve, I look ahead and there's a black Nissan Altima passing 2 cars and an 18-wheeler about 300 yards ahead coming opposite direction. I immediately put on my brakes pretty hard and pulled over onto the shoulder. Altima comes screaming past me in my lane, black chick with a phone to her ear.

People in general have poor situational awareness. With so many distractions these days it's gonna become a pain in the arse for everybody else.

Compared to a decade ago, almost everyone was pretty reckless mixing phones and driving, but it's gotten better. If I get on the phone I try to do it during traffic or a light, but I keep my attention directed at driving first for when traffic moves or the light turns. I was just discussing with a friend recently about how I noticed a lot of folks aren't using phone cases anymore, and it seems like people have adjusted to taking better care of their smartphone(or replacing a case with insurance). So maybe it just takes a couple years for society to adapt to a new tech like smartphones.

You need a horn if you plan to drive in some parts of the world because people will absolutely not pay attention to anything around them unless they hear a horn.

Same here.

I'll admit it, I text while driving pretty regularly on the highway if it's light traffic. But I hold my phone up to the top of my steering wheel where I just have to barely shift my vision to see the road and I still have peripheral vision. And I only type maybe one word at a time while checking ahead.

So, I may text and drive, but I'm a safe texting driver.

Yep. If driving were lethal as frick, bad driving becomes a self-correcting problem.

shite I give them one second. And like the other poster said, if I see there head down looking at their phone, I lay on the horn the second it turns green.

If there was a way to run that kind of driver off the road while ensuring everyone else's safety, I'd be all for it.
